DH and I, along with my in-laws, are supposed to be leaving in NINE days for Disney. We have planned this trip for about four months, bought tickets, booked hotel rooms and took time off of work to enjoy our long ten night vacation to the fullest. DH suffers from kidney stones and has for quite some time; his tolerance for pain is absolutely incredible but we are all worried. He naturally got rid of a kidney stone about two weeks ago and he has one more to go (or so we think) - we pretty much have succumbed to the idea that we will have to reschedule but with some major obstacles in our way. Does anyone know of a natural remedy or anything that may help him to get rid of this kidney stone naturally? He has been drinking water all day and night and has used the "Jump and Bump" method but to no avail -any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I feel his pain. Really!!! I had one pass early last year, and when they did the CT. there were 2 more in my kidney. It took them about 7 months to move. If his is still inthe kidney, maybe it will just sit there. I did go to a urologist (the WORST dr I have ever met, but that's another thread) and one thing he said was to dring at least a gallon and a half of water every day. I try to drink a gallon, but I don't do very well at it.

Good luck, I hope it all works out (Sorry!!)

In my experience, it seems that all of these remedys are both good and bad, depending on who you talk to. I suffer from kidney stones and I've seen a lot of different doctors. One will tell me to drink water, another will tell me that it doesn't really help, another will tell me to change my diet, another will tell me not to bother. I don't think anyone really knows what to do about them. Your DH can have that stone sitting in his kidney for a week or a year. There's no telling when it will break loose. You just have to take one day at a time and be prepared for the pain when it strikes. Although you asked for a natural remedy (I don't have any), I suggest your DH have his doctor prescribe some pain medication to take along for your trip. He doesn't have to take it unless he needs it, but it will be a godsend if he should want it. You don't want to get stuck far from home and not have access to your doctor. Good luck.

In my book, anyone dealing with this issue is a brave soldier. Good luck on the trip.

They're not always painful to pass. About 5 years ago I passed one "naturally". It can be decribed as almost the size of 1/2 tic-tac, just not as smooth. I experienced absolutely no pain or dircomfort (some back pain for about 2 weeks leading up to it). I felt something "enter" an area that I never experienced before and called my doctor. He explained the importance of coming in the next day for an appointment and if I had any blockage during urinating to go directly to the hospital. I felt natures call and went to the bathroom and "passed" the stone with no problems at all. Visits to the doctor and urologist confirmed it was a kidney stone and they were both shocked that I had no pain. Has anyone else ever passed one with no pain? ...Mark

In fact, I have many of them but have never passed one!:(

I am told that once they get to a certain size they can blast them with soundwaves...Lithotropsy or something?? Just a thought..

I too have been to Urologists for many years and a Nephrologist and was told there is nothing in my diet causing them and no way to prevent or get rid of them:rolleyes:

I spent 8 years working at a surgery center where all we did was Lithotrypsy. I don't quite understand why more of you weren't given that option.

If they can see the stone, generally it can be treated by Lithotrypsy.

DNBois, I agree about the pain med. Be aware also that Florida is a HUGE kidney stone area. Lots of people in that region of the country get them and they have kidney stone treatment centers all over the place. I would suggest you speak with DH's doctor about having the name of a urologist, hospital and check with your insurance carrier about what you will have to do if he requires emergency treatment while out of your home area. Then, you will be prepared as best as one can and, if you are like me, nothing will happen. (That old Murphy's Law thing).

Your doctor can easily find you a doctor's name and even give you a copy of your DH's xrays, MRI or what ever imaging they have done and include a letter himself. All that would save a lot of time and money on the other end if he needs a doctor fast.

Good luck and have fun.

I have passed about 5 kidney stones (over a period of 9 years). While I was at the hospital with the last stone, someone in a white jacket recommended that I see a urologist, so I did. He basically told me that I had another stone in my kidneys, but that it wasnt' big enough to blast. He told me that I could pass it the next week or never. That was 4 years ago and no movement on the stone's part, yet.

And no...I have never passed one without having the worst pain that I have ever felt in my life. I would rather go through childbirth again than have another kidney stone pass....okay, by that I mean, I would rather have the pain of childbirth, not ACTUAL childbirth, b/c, four children is enough for me:p

At least labor pains stop every minute or so....my kidney stones didn't stop hurting until I could finally talk some wonderful person in the hospital to just give me drugs so that I could sleep while the stone was moving.

I send your husband my prayers and best wishes for a great trip!

Lori P. :)

I was told to drink liquids. Lots of them. Has he had any of the stones tested?

It is definately the worst pain I have ever felt. & I hear it is worse for guys then girls. Hope things go well for you DH. I suggest the pain meds too and the medical info on hand just incase.
