We are planning to be at Disneyland in Jan. 10' 1st-2nd week and are wondering if they always shut down The Small World ride at this time (it was this year) and is the haunted house always closed for the change of Nightmare theme back to the original? :confused3

Thanks for your help.:goodvibes

Currently the only known things that might happen at that time are removal of Huanted Mansion and Small World overlays. Also sometime next year the Rivers of America will be drained, cleaned, and maintenance done on the riverboat tracks.

Also Orange Stinger will be down for retheming at that time. The shop and Corn Dog Palace will also be closed at that time in DCA. I have the January Check in but right now it is not updated as there is not much known for anything other than some events in the future and some long term closures. it is not unuual for someone to talk to a CM or read the schedules as they are published before anyone knows what is going to be closed.

This is a problem for travelers to DLR as they often do not know until 6 weeks or less before the trip if something will be closed.

I believe so... HM and IASW are closed most of Sept. and Jan. I think.
I can understand that HM would be closed in Sept., but does IASW really close that early to prepare for Christmastime? Does anyone know when it has closed in the past?

oh wow when are they draining rivers of America an will it cancel fantasmic?

WDW and DLR have divers who can go into various bodies of water at the parks. Once very 5 years the Rivers of America is supposed to be drained. This allows a thorough inspection of the boat track and cleaning of the river bed. You would not believe what people throw ro drop into the river. In time such debris can clog pipes, pollute the river water, and even interfere with the boat track.

It is past due and has been on the internet as going down in 2010 before Easter. I think it was Al Lutz who said that.

Canoes, rafts, Mark Twain, Columbia, fantasmic, Pirate's Lair and possibly Harbour Galley will be closed during that time.

To install the IASWH overlay, IASW is typically closed on the second-to-last-Monday in October, for 18 days. (That's according to the MP weekly updates from 2003 to 2007. IASW had a major 9-month refurb in 2008, so there's no information for 2008.)

IF this year is similar to previous years, then IASW would be down from Oct. 19 (Mon.) to Nov. 5 (Thurs.), and IASWH would open on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009; but those dates are only unofficial conjecture. :) The official dates for IASWH might be announced in August.

Here are some dates that IASW has been down to remove the IASWH overlay (from MP weekly updates):

1/13/03 - 2/6/03
1/12/04 - 1/25/04
1/10/05 - 1/23/05
1/4/06 - 1/18/06
1/22/07 - 2/1/07
In 2008 IASW had a major refurb (1/22/08 - Nov. '08).
1/5/09 - 2/5/09 (took longer than usual -- Disney characters were added to IASW)

As you can see, the dates to remove the IASWH overlay don't follow a consistent pattern. :upsidedow

I remember answering your questions before, on the same thread as this one. What happened to your other thread? I will see if I can find it.

For as long as hmh has been held, it generally works this way.... in Sept. after labor day, The Haunted Mansion (Not the haunted house) is closed, then @2 weeks later, it reopens as the haunted mansion holiday. It remains open, until after Jan. 01, where then it will be closed down again, for another @ two weeks, then re open in it's more or less original state.
Refurbishments can and do take place at various times throughout the year. Keep eye on the refurbishment schedule on Disney's web site. It is a good idea to call as well, as your finalized plans begin to take place, just in case, you may need to change a date or two. That being calling Disney's guest services. Mind you, sometimes they do not have information available at the time. Hence, the importance of being mindful of the dates on their site. This forum is a good source as well as other Disney related sites.
Have a wonderful trip!
