I am beside myself!!!!! Times are very very tight for our family. I have been out of work for a LONG time. DH did a load of laundry last night w/ bleach in it. He must have been careless about where it splashed. I just did a load of my kids dark clothes and my DD's 2 good pair of navy school pants have big bleach blotches on them!!! She only has 1 other pair that fits!!! DD and DS son go to a public school where they wear uniforms so jeans are not an option. what can I do? Can I dye them? Will the dye then get on all my other clothes?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

You can get fabric color pen at Michaels might work out better than a dye not sure.

Try dying them first but I think the bleach spots will still be lighter than the rest of the fabric.

If you rinse the machine after you dye it should be ok.

Definitely try dyeing them. Follow the instructions on the bottle or box-check the tag on the clothes to see what they are made of. Some fabrics don't take home dyeing well.

After you wash and rinse them several times they should be fine to put in with other clothes. But you'll still want to wash them only with darks. Safer that way.

I have several tye dye shirts I've made over the years and after a few washings I no longer worry about them bleeding.

Good luck.

If the dyeing doesn't work, how about a dark blue Sharpie?

Try using a Sharpie marker, if the spots aren't too big. I did this with my son's school uniform pants :thumbsup2 The bleach might have weakened the fabric a bit though.

Another vote for the sharpie. It may fade after a few washings but all you have to go is go over it again, cheap and easy! And they come in a lot of colors so easy to match.

What about checking with the school's resource center to see if they have any uniform pants that they could give your child?? I know the schools here that have a uniform requirement are set to help those in need. It would not hurt to call the school and ask.

If the above doesn't work, you may want to check second hand stores to replace them. You should be able to find some great deals on used clothing.

This is why my husband is banned from doing laundry!

We have that at my DD's school we call it the uniform closet. Maybe you guys ahve something like that?

try freecycle I see lots of request and donations for "school uniform" type clothes

Wow you're getting my first post on the Disboards, I had this exact thing happen to me, only I was the one with the bleach one of those "Doh" moments. If the spots are not too big I can vouch for the sharpie or permenent marker working. Look in the craft section at walmart or you could go to a joanns you could even try fabric paint or pens, but a plain ole marker worked for me it just makes the fabric a little stiff but after a few washes you wont even see it unless you know to look.

On a similar vein we had navy blue carpet and there was a bleach spill in the hall bath that ended with bleach soaked towels dripping on my carpet all down the hall. I got a couple of packages crayon permenent markers and took the navy ones and colored in each strand of bleached carpet. You couldn't even find where the spill was afterwards, we even had it steam cleaned and it never showed. I thought we were going to have to replace the carpet and five dollars worth of markers saved it. :woohoo:

Get some RIT dye to match. That has worked for me, and it was a very dark navy blue pair of jeans. I had to do it twice.

I have used a sharpie before. It was on a very expensive (and favorite) work dress over 20+ yrs ago. The guy at the grocery store spilled bleach and it splattered on my dress....small spots. I used a marker to color the spots.

I also second asking around at school. I bet there are people who are out growing their pants and may want to sell or donate. Also check the local Goodwill or thrift stores.

I need pants for my cafeteria sub job. They supplied shirts but not pants. I headed over to Goodwill and surprisingly, happily found tons. I got 2 pairs of pants for $3.75 each. There is a good chance a local thrift store would be the recipient of some of the uniform pants.

Sorry this happened to you.
