Please help a Disney novice!

Okay, can someone please explain this whole code thing. Where do you find the code? Who can use it? How and where do you use the code?

Last year I booked my vacation thru the Walt Disney Travel Co. (disney.com) Is there a better (and/or cheaper) place to book a trip? I am starting to plan my vacation for Oct. 06 and would like to have a clear understanding of how the get the best deal. I am not an AP and would love the free dining? (Is that offered every year? What are my chances for next year?) I would appreciate any help and info. all you Disney experts can give me. Thanks in advance, Melissa

Sorry but I am not much help -- you may want to check out the Resorts forum--I think they actually have an entire forum for resort codes. You can also check out mousesavers.com. Good luck and I hope you get all the answers you need

From what I've learned, there are numerous ways to get codes, but for an OCt. 2006 trip, there really wouldn't be any available as of yet. And codes are not guaranteed.

Apparently there are codes for various reasons. If you've stayed at WDW before, you could have a code attached to your name which you would find out simply by asking when you call WDW travel to book.

There are also codes just for Florida residents and AP holders. Or you could receive the random postcard from WDW with a code.

If you have AAA, you could always book with them which gets you a discount on the room portion of your package.

As for the free dining, so far, that's only being offered this year. It may or may not be offered next year. One never knows what Disney will decide to do.

Your best bet...book once you know where you want to stay. And then keep an eye out for any and all deals that you can get to see if you can save some $$$. You'll have some time to cancel and rebook if you find a better deal. But it's also possible that the deal you get today will be the best price you get.

That being said...as the other person mentioned, check out the Resorts board, and the Codes and Rates section within the Resorts board. That is where you will find the most information - which will be confusing at first, but it will start to make more sense the more time you spend there.
