I booked Doubletree and another Disney resort I won't name. I came upon a post referring to bedbugs and roaches in another. :sad2:

PLEASE - can anyone give me a few hotel suggestions for either a Disney resort and/or a LBV area hotel that is clean and never had a review w/ bugs of any kind??:scared:

Any help appreciated as I have to book something asap....

Bedbugs and normal bugs happen. There is no hotel in existence that I am aware of that has never had a bedbug issue or had a bug or two get into a room. Roaches can get into rooms no matter what level of hotel. Guests often bring bedbugs into rooms without knowing it. At Disney, the room and surrounding rooms are shut down when there's a bedbug incident. They are superheated to kill the infestation and then cleaned thoroughly. Disney has a pest control team ready to take out roaches and any other bugs. Unfortunately, there are no resorts that haven't had an issue with either or both of those in the past. I would book whatever hotel you like best and know that things happen, but no Disney hotels have infestations or constant problems. :thumbsup2

Like the PP suggested, I can't imagine there is any hotel that hasn't had a bug (roach or bedbug) somewhere. There are reports of them at hotels all over the country (and the world) these days.

1. It is Florida. There isn't such a thing as no bugs.
2. You are going to a top tourist destination with people from all walks of life from different parts of the world. While bedbugs are nasty and no one wants them you might not be able to avoid them.

Yup, Florida has bugs. But in 20 years of visiting WDW, I have not encountered bed bugs, or any other bugs to speak of, at any of the WDW resorts. Disney has it's own division devoted to pest control - you may see their vehicles driving around WDW while you're there. They do a good job. If you're really paranoid about bugs, you can always visit North Dakota instead of Florida!

I disagree! As I stated in my previous post - 20 years visiting, up to 6 times a year, no bed bugs encountered at WDW!! Get a grip, people!!

I don't think the PP was suggesting that bedbugs are everywhere. I think it was more an explanation that it can happen and that it's nearly impossible to avoid if the previous guest in the room brings in bedbugs which go unnoticed when the sheets are changed. I have been to Disney very often and also never once seen a bedbug. I've also travelled through many countries in Europe and various states and never seen bedbugs. But, they do happen and there's not a whole lot you can do nor is it the fault of the resort if they do.

If you have found anyplace in NY that doesn't have bugs of any kind, please let us know.

thanks! DH said to stick it out and we booked WL for 7/6 nites.
I guess we'll sleep at hopefully a brand name hotel on our drive down...do u knwo where we might be --- we'd leave at 5am and stop for a break at 8am for breakfast. Then figure that's 8-845am, then back on the road and then drive until we're hungry? then figure we'll stop at 7pm to eat and find hotel to sleep at....is this a good plan????

The transportation board might be a good place to post your last question about enroute hotels.

I am in Disney hotels at least 30+ days a year and have yet to see a bedbug. And believe me, I look for them. Never put anything on a carpeted or upholstered surface and I always remake the beds.

As for non-Disney hotels, I generally stay in Marriott properties. These are corporate owned (not franchises) and I've not had a bad one yet. Marriotts are very consistent and I know the one in Dayton is going to be like the one in Valdosta.

But its Florida... its hot... and there are always bugs. Don't stress over it. In fact all of our homes probably have a critter or rodent that lives in the wall. It is impossible to exist without insects.

Aren't BedBugs usually brought in from the last guest? So technially it wouldnt be the hotels fault. It can happen anywhere but in order to have a good vacation thinking postive is the key. Just think about how little you hear about bedbugs at disney. I mean these days you can get bedbugs from a new mattress.

As for roaches and other bugs.. you are in Florida. I live in florida across from the beach and I am still not use to the Bugs. No matter how many times I get my house sprayed, they always come back. I am pretty postive disney tries harder than I do. But in florida nothing works.

I see it just like the fleas on my dog. No matter how much I put flea medication on him they always come back. lol. It is a perk of Florida.

Seriously, you are going to have an amazing trip. If something happens while you are there then act on it. :thumbsup2

IMO the most important thing to consider when dealing witht Bed Bugs is not to find a hotel that has a perfect record but to find a hotel that deals with them proactively, professionally and will admit their faults. There is nothing worse than reading a Tripadvisor review about Bed Bugs and seeing the management response saying the person did not get the bed bugs/bites from their hotel. I avoid those places like the plague.

Also, I prefer staying in hotels with entirely white bedding because it is easier to spot blood spots and that helps both yourself and the cleaning staff to identify an infestation. I give an exception to Disney because I do believe they are proactive based on reading reports of guests being told their rooms are infected. Disney will treat your belongings which goes a long way in my books. I don't want to bring bed bugs home!!

Finally, know how to look for bed bugs and how to protect your belongings.

I never experienced any bugs in all my visits......just a very large mouse running around:lmao:

Bed bugs do not care how expensive the room is, how wealthy a guest is, how clean someone is, they're looking for warm bodies - they do not discriminate. People from all walks of life can pick up bed bugs and take them with them wherever they go!!

I am more worried about the pillows. I know people cough into those things and even when you change the pillow cases, the germs still live inside the pillow! :scared:
One year I got really sick at Disney with bronchitus. I will admit that in the middle of the night, to avoid waking my family with my coughing fit, I coughed into the pillow. I know I am not the only one who has ever done this and it dawned on me that I should probably take my own pillows with me whenever I stay in a hotel.
I hope there is some sanitary procedures for pillows because I sure enough contaminated the one I slept with that trip!

OP - have you ever had a bug in your house (and/fly etc)??

The hotels are not infested with bugs. Just because a cockroach was spotted does not mean there was an infestation.

Just because you stayed somewhere and did not *see* bugs does not mean they were not there.

The OP's post was not limited to bed bugs. She wanted to know what hotel has *never* had a report of a single bug.

Take a look at my signature. I have stayed at many different Disney Resorts many many times. I have never had room with bed bug problems. I have never had a roach in my room. I did once have a lizard in a Value resort room.

As many have said bugs in Florida are unavoidable. But its not like they are swarming around all areas. If you are staying at a resort where the door opens to the outside try not keeping your door open too long. If the door's not open it lessens the chance things crawl in.

Have a great trip! :)

I would suggest that you request a room on a high floor. While Disney does a great job at pest control, as many others have stated, I have seen a bug (ONE bug) in my room in the decades I've been staying at Disney resorts. This was a harmless bug and we were on a ground floor room and had the sliding door open for a LONG time. It wasn't a big deal to us but if you are squeamish, request a high floor and don't open any windows or doors to the outside (if that's even possible!)

As for bedbugs, check your mattress as soon as you get to the room. If they are free and clear (and I bet it is!), then rest easy.

And I have encountered bed bugs in my travels (in a hostel in Italy) and we got bitten up but couldn't feel it as we slept. We didn't bring any bugs with us anywhere else either. So even if you happen to sleep with a bedbug, it's not going to kill you. BUT again, just check your mattress. At Disney - you will be FINE!!!
