Please fix splash mountain

I was a kid when they first opened Splash Mountain. I only vaguely knew what Song of the South was because I had a singalong VHS with it on there, and I imagine most of my peers knew less than that. So if you're saying it needs to be renovated because it's outdated, then it was outdated when they built it. Anyways, I don't see them changing it anytime soon. It's still a great ride, and I don't think you need to know about the movie to follow along with the story. There is a rabbit that is being chased by 2 dumb, bad guys, and then he escapes. I think it's very well done and timeless BECAUSE the characters aren't well known, so they can't really be dated(Like Hannah Montana).

I think Splash is perfect the way it is, theme wise. It is a classic ride that so many people love, including me. Even though it is based after a movie not many peolple have seen, it's still a movie most big Disney fans have heard about. And of course what would we all do without Zip-A-De-Do-Da in our heads all day after riding it?!?! Classic. Long live Splash Mountain!

I first saw Song of the South as a child in its 1972 re-release and I LOVED it. I saw it again in my 20s in 1986, never imagining it wouldn't come to home video. Imagine my surprise when I saw it for sale on DVD in Italy in 1998! I have a pretty decent bootleg DVD. I had the soundtrack on vinyl and wish I could get it on CD. I love Splash Mountain just the way it is!

I agree with Disney re-releasing it. Song of the South isn't anymore racist that many of those old Shirley Temple movies and many many other classic movies that can still be seen. Will some people complain? Certainly, no can can do anything these days without someone whining about it. I think MOST people would recognize the movie as a harmless piece of Disney nostalgia and be glad to be able to see it again. Song of the South isn't even in the same hemisphere as some of the movies today that portray rampant violent racism. Come on Disney, quit being frightened by what would probably be a very tiny amount of people and let the rest of us see the movie!

I don't think anyone has mentioned that the story(/stories) of Br'er Rabbit are classic Southern American tales. Though Splash Mountain is based on Song of the South, Br'er Rabbit stories were first recorded in the 1800s, and are a melding of African and Cherokee folk tales as adapted and retold by African-American slaves in the South.

Not every ride should be based on a movie. Many Disney rides and attractions (The Jungle Cruise, PotC pre-film franchise, etc) stand on their own merits and tell their own stories.

I am also old enough to have seen the movie, but, as a child, my parents got me some Disney songs record club thing. I don't know what it was because I was very young and was just happy to see the large square cardboard box come. I think the ride reminds me of the songs more than the movie. I love the theming for the ride. Even though the ride didn't exist when I was a kid, it reminds me of that time more than any ride. It's a little sad when some of the characters are stationary or decrepit, but I always enjoy it.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and were actually impressed. The last refurb really cleaned it up and all of the effects and AAs seemed to be working as they should.

Personally, I love the the,ing and music to Splash Mountain. And it just had a major refurb. Hope they leave it as is!

I ordered the DVD The Adventures of Brer Rabbit a few years back and it's cute. I ways wondered what the story was behind Splash and although it is Song of the South, it does offer a story in DVD format you can share with kids.

So those who object to the overwhelming presentation of stereotypes about people of color and their experience in the post-war South are just "politically correct"? No one could possibly have a legitimate negative response to their people being represented by Uncle Remus - it all must just be political posturing?

Now, can you clarify, please: Many people were highly disturbed by the racial stereotypes in this movie when it was originally released, in 1946...about 50 years before politicians created the term "politically correct." So what term can we use to diminish and devalue their feelings? Or are we allowed to be anachronistic and just call them "politically correct" too?

That said, the ride itself doesn't reflect any of the problematic racism that appears in the movie (some elements were changed to make this so - which is why we get a honey pot instead of a tar baby).

I don't even remember the movie, but I do love the theming of Splash Mountain. It is one of our favorite rides. I was kind of hoping that 7DMT would be themed this well.

Different time, different place. I refuse to feel guilty for stuff that happened before I was born or at least old enough to be aware. The movie is no longer available for release, that is the response that correctness has given us. Because, I guess if we where to be exposed to it all that stuff would become valid. Apparently, as a species we are not capable of determining right from wrong, we must be told. History is history, nothing will change that, but, sometimes it is good for people to see how things were looked at in a less enlightened time.

Having seen the movie, what I get out of it was that white folk were nasty, uncaring, clueless, superiority invested idiots. While blacks, although stereotyped at the time, came across as wise and tolerant people. Who came out looking good in that movie? Believe me it was everyone that wasn't white.

I would love an Apple Dumpling themed ride. Love that movie!
