I've been running the numbers and it just doesn't make sense why anyone would forgo 2 TS credits for a signature restaurant unless you're doing the deluxe plan and you have TS credits to burn. In many cases, I find that the entrees at the sig restaurants are equivalent in price or, in some cases, less than the cost of 1 TS credit restaurant entrees - especially the buffets. If they do cost more, the price difference almost always isn't nearly enough to justify charging 2 TS credits.

Am I wrong? It seems like using the dining plan for signatures is a huge waste of money.

They are intended to provide an extraordinary themed and/or upscale dining experience. According to Disney. So it's not entirely about the food items offered and the cost thereof.

Are you comparing the cost of a single signature entree to the cost of a full buffet? :confused3

and by the way, on the regular plan...using the dining plan for signatures IS a huge waste of money. It would be really difficult, for the most part, for either an adult or child to order the equivalent of the "cash value" of two credits.

We spent a couple of days at Universal / SeaWorld / Busch. On these days we got QS for dinner and therefore had TS credits that wouldn't otherwise be used enabling us to treat ourselves to a signature dinner. We really really enjoyed both Brown Derby and Cali Grill.

BUT we were on free dining so costs didn't really matter.

To answer the question in your title --- because Disney said so.11:cool1:

You are correct, using 2 TS for most Signature meals is a waste of money. But it is not all about money to us. The Signature restaurants are more upscale and a nicer experience than say Chef Mickey's. We are willing and able to pay for that experience.

They cost 2 credits because Disney is a business. You can't expect to get a $55 steak, $10 dessert, and $3 drink ($70 or so with tax) at Yachtsman for the same one credit that gets you Crystal Palace for dinner ($40 or so with tax).

Don't you expect to "pay" more for an upscale experience? Requiring 2 TS is the simplest way to keep the upscale places more upscale. Like I said, 1 TS isn't an option because Disney would lose money and 1.5 TS or a surcharge would be too confusing for everyone. And Disney makes out better charging 2TS.

Yes, doing signature restaurants on DDP does erode its value. However, you can still come out okay if you plan well or if you got free dining.

And on DxDP, you have paid less for each meal credit, so it is okay get less cash value for each credit.
