Please explain what I did wrong with Fp?

I thought I understood what I was doing, even though this is my first time, I read the sticky but I screwed up!

I live in Ca so I woke up at 4am my time to book FP for 7am EST for our HS day on May 28th, it is our first day of the trip and it was the earliest I could book since we are staying off site.

I knew TSM wasn't likely since they aren't allowing those to get booked and that was correct. Then, went to RNR and the earliest I could get for my group of 6 was 3pm! I split the group, tried 5 and 1, 4 and 2 and no luck. Only 3pm or later...

The, I went to TOT and that we could get at 12:20 so that works well and then Star Tours for 1:30.

My original plan was to spend 9-2 at HS and then hop to Epcot to see the last day of Flower Festival. I really wanted to ride RNR though, it is one of the top 3 rides and my son is finally able to ride! So how do I check to see if an earlier time is available if I split the group like 4 and 2? It looks like I have to give up my current FP in order to do that. I do see that I can look for an earlier time as a whole group, but not sure about that. Also, if Toy Story becomes available with FP, how will I know? Do I have to cancel RNR to be able to search if it is free?

I also wondered if I should skip HS and just do EP that day, but I can't see what FP I could get that day since I have these reserved....

How do you all deal with this?

I will be up at 4am tomorrow also to try to book the next day and need a better plan!

Do you have the MDE app? If so, just keep trying to modify the FP time with one or two people until you get them all moved to where you want. The risk is that you get some people moved but the rest don’t open up. That’s seems unlikely though. I’ve usually been able to do this in most cases. Even on the same day.

Also consider flipping the day. Morning is perfect for flower and garden since it’s harder to see at night. HS has a great feel at night I think and you’d probably enjoy the day just as much.

You didn't do anything wrong. You have all of this working against you.
- You are staying offsite. Everyone onsite had accessibility to that day before you.
- It's the first day of your trip. Everyone staying offsite that is planning on being at HS that day that started their vacation in the days prior to the 28th had accessibility to that day before you.
- May 28th is a holiday, so crowds will naturally be higher.
- RNR is a Tier 1 FP in a park that has limited options to begin with, and one of those options currently has no FP availability due to a refurb.

I'll just add that checking for other times will not cause you to lose your FPs. As long as you don't CONFIRM changes on the final screen you'll keep what you have.

Edit: TBH, I'm actually surprised you were able to find RnRC for a party of 6 at all with TSM FP not being available. Makes me hopeful for our upcoming trip.

Yeah, 5/28 being Memorial Day is one of the biggest things working against you. Start of a traditionally busy week.

Plus with no TSM FPs and so few rides to begin with at HS.... well, you’re now living through what FP availability is like under those conditions 30 days out.

Read the above-referenced sticky on checking FPs and keep checking / modifying - hopefully you’ll be able to work something out.

Good luck.

1) I really wanted to ride RNR though, it is one of the top 3 rides and my son is finally able to ride! So how do I check to see if an earlier time is available if I split the group like 4 and 2? 2)Also, if Toy Story becomes available with FP, how will I know? Do I have to cancel RNR to be able to search if it is free?

3)I also wondered if I should skip HS and just do EP that day, but I can't see what FP I could get that day since I have these reserved....

1) go on the app, click the ride you want to see if a different time is available, click "modify", select all guests that you'd like to switch the times for, then next screen will show you other times if their available and other rides as well if you'd like to switch rides.

2) If Toy Story Midway Mania becomes available then you'll likely see it from this forum. But to check on your own, click to modify the RnR FP since it's still a tier 1, then if TSMM is available it'll pop up on the next screen. Same as trying to modify the RnR FP in the first question. Just instead of changing the time you're looking to see if another ride is available.

3) You can see fastpass availability at other parks regardless if you have FP's already made. Click to make new FP's like any regular day, select everyone you want to, click ok on the warning about already having other FP's, then click continue and you can view FP availability at the other parks. Your original FP's won't be cancelled or changed UNTIL you select FP's at a different park and confirm the selection

Also consider flipping the day. Morning is perfect for flower and garden since it’s harder to see at night. HS has a great feel at night I think and you’d probably enjoy the day just as much.

I second this^

I'd flip the day around, check out flower and garden in the early afternoon, then head to HS with your FP's set up around 4 or 5pm, then end the night with either Star Wars show or Fantasmic

You did nothing wrong except expect full availability of all rides at all times of day, which you can't reasonably expect when you are staying offsite, visiting over a holiday weekend, and booking for a group of 6.

I agree that you should do F&G in the morning, instead. Rope drop Epcot & do some rides there, visit F&G and have lunch. Then go to HS & do rides you have FPs for, including RNR.

My first thought was also flipping the schedule around especially given the availability to the FPs. It would depend on what you want to see at Epcot since I do like Epcot at night a lot but if it's mainly to see the flowers and the topiaries, etc I'd think morning/early afternoon is better. Also you could easily (due to park proximity) hop back over to Epcot later depending on park close time..at least it's an option..though you may opt not to when you're actually at DHS.

OP, I started checking 6 weeks out for MK fastpasses, and even for a park with tons of attractions, prior to the 30 day mark, I was disappointed. 3 mountains were booked solid already. I've been checking many times per day, and contrary to popular sentiment, it's not that fun.

I'm sorry you were disappointed in what was available.

You could always rope drop RnR then book FP for star tours and ToT for after that. You could then hop to Epcot (have to take a bus, walk or drive) for the rest of the day. Or you could hop back over to DHS for the night time shows.

I'll third that idea to flip your day!

I am not sure of my plan...

I might go to HS and rush for rope drop for RNR, then hit those few attractions at HS and then use the TOT at 12:20 and then Star Tours for 1:30. Then, plan to hop to Epcot and skip the RNR fastpass. If we do that, I might be able to cancel it and get something in Epcot. Then the boat ride over, straight to the food (really late lunch by then). Lots of sunlight that time of day and maybe stay there the rest of the day.

I am afraid to flip the day since there is no chance of any FP in Epcot at all then. I'll play with it and see what happens....

Thanks! Still new to me.

Tomorrow I'll be trying to book AK fastpasses...

I would prepare for Epcot F&G stands to be pretty full and hectic when you get this considering it’s a final weekend and a holiday. I would also highly suggest flipping the day - I think DHS has the better night time shows right now too!
