On Sunday, I hope to book a week at VWL for December. DH will be with me only for the first 3 nights, and I would like to have the dining plan for those nights. Can I do that and book the whole week, or will it take 2 different reservations? I will be solo for the rest of the week. This past year, I moved to AKV for the second part of the trip, and I decided that I don't want to move.

Thanks.

You'll need to have two reservations if you want the DDP for only a portion of the stay.

If it were me, I'd book the whole week on Sunday and then call back when the 11 month window opens for the last portion of the stay. If there is availability, then you can just drop the last 4 nights of the original reservation and make the separate reservation you need. Ms can link them and you can add the DP whenever you're ready to pay for it.

If there isn't availability for the latter portion when you first call, you can call back in a month or so (when it's not so busy) and ask to have the reservations separated. I'd probably ask for a Supervisor right away so that it gets done correctly and without losing any of the week.

Hope it all works out for you!

When I called MS this week about DDP for just a portion of a stay, they told me that they make only one reservation and they segment it: one segment with DDP and one segment without, but all under the same reservation number....

Maybe somebody else can confirm if I understand well the CM answer to my question ?

My understanding is that it is a terminology issue. There is one "Travel Plan ID" that covers the entire stay. The segments or reservations are tied to the Travel Plan. Some CMs may call the over all ID a reservation and others call the "segments" reservations.

So I think it's really just a matter of knowing how the specific terms were being used. But the concept is the same.

The key is to make sure the CM understands exactly what you want to do and that the CM is technically capable and knowledgeable enough to do it correctly.

Even if DH is there for only 3 nights, the DDP could be of value if you wanted to eat at a few Signature restaurants or a second TS restaurant per day. For our next trip, there are four of us for 3 nights and only two of us for the other 4 nights so I hadn't considered the DDP. The MS CM suggested the DDP if we wanted to visit a few Signature restaurants as we would end up using at least all the TS meals. I'm in the process of doing the math to see if it would work out for us.

Thank you very much for the explanation ! :thumbsup2 It is not always obvious, with all their terms, to understand and be understood.
