Please don't throw pineapples but...

There were mixed reviews in our family. DS absolutely loved Ohanas. I thought the food was good. Dh had an intolerance to some of the spices in the meats and he ended up having to leave the table during the main course. Will we go back? DS and I...yes. DH...probably not, unless he special orders his meat ahead of time.

I will agree that everyone should try restaurants that appeal to them and make their own decisions. My mom and I really enjoyed Ohanas this past Jan and plan to bring my father there next year.

I haver tried Ohana's 3 times and I just dont like it. For me the food is blah , meat meat and more meat. But that is great for some. You should try it and then judge for yourself.

DH and I love 'Ohana, but we probably would never take BIL there again, he found the shrimp to spicey, doesn't like pineapple, and a dozen other complaints. Some things just really come down to personal taste.

O'Hanas was the best meal of our trip! The meat was tender and flavorful, not overly spicy. I don't like food too spicy. The kids were entertained and I likded the decor and service. We watched Wishes afterwards by the pier.

I had the luau and Ohana in the back of my mind to go to ...but now that I know its essentially a Brazilian Barbecue I think I'll pass on Ohana anyway... Newark, NJ and Atlanta have a number of these style restaurants. I may do the luau once to do it...just like I did Hoop Dee Do once. Kona will still be on my list.

add me to the list of those underwhelmed by ohana. service was fine - food was ho hum. it wasn't bad or improperly cooked - i just found it rather boring and the flavors were all wrong (flavorful when it should have been less so and vice versa.)

I definitely would not cancel 'Ohana without trying it first - tastes are so subjective! I went the first time (in 2003) with my parents, in-laws, DH and DD(4 1/2). Parents and in-laws loved everything, DH loved the appetizers but felt the skewers were just OK, and I agreed with DH for the most part. DD is not too finicky and tastes a bit of everything. We all agreed that the appetizers were great and the best part of the meal for us. The green beans are very tasty (made with bacon and onions), the wings are sweet and yummy, the salad with honey-lime dressing is a favorite, the shrimp wontons were very good, I was told (I don't like fish), and the fried rice was also good. We also enjoyed the dipping sauces and the banana bread (savory, not the sweet breakfast kind). DH hates peel-n-eat shrimp (he's so spoiled!) and we both felt that the turkey and pork were on the dry side. The sausage and beef were more moist.

Try it - it's a fun atmosphere and worth at least one try, IMHO. :sunny:

Like others have said, it all boils down to personal taste. When we went, my DH and DS and myself loved it, but our daughter wasn't as impressed with it. Her favorite restaurant was Chef Mickey's. But, the rest of us would go back in a heartbeat.:)

We enjoyed our first trip to O'hana and were eager to return this past year. However this time everything was dry including the unripe pineapple. We are going to take a few years off from this one. The only one who ever gets his money's worth here is my husband anyway as DS and I are small eaters.

Ugh - I HATE pineapple - is there any other option for dessert other than the pineapple with caramel?

There are other desserts, but they cost extra... the pineapple is included with the cost of the meal.

Personally, I loved Ohana, and we'll be eating there again this year.

We eat at O'Hana on every WDW trip. I've taken many various members of my family and several sets of friends and everyone has always loved it. I know that everyone's opinions vary, but don't cancel without first giving it a shot. As for some saying the shrimp was too spicy, my DD LOVES shrimp (and these are huge here too), but we do order it without any seasoning (I just tell the waiter as soon as we are seated and they start cooking her's to order right away) and she eats a whole skewer of her own (she's 8 :teeth: ). I say try it - you might really like it!!

Wow, You all have got me thinking that I need to cancel my reservations. I had heard such excellent reviews. Have any of you eaten at the Luau? Is the food similar to Ohana? We are planning to eat at both places in a couple of weeks. Maybe we shold go to Kona instead.

My family and I did not like the food from the Luau. :crazy2: So, we've never tried Ohana and have no intention of every trying it since we assume the food is similar to the Luau.

Our first experience at O'hana was wonderful. So much so that we had a PS there the next year.

Well service was HORRIBLE that year. We haven't been back since and don't have plans to go anytime soon.

When you sit down tell the waiter how you like your meat. If you like it rare, medium, or well done, be sure to request it the way you like it. Before the waiter brings anything to us, I tell him that we like our beef pink in the middle, and the rest of the meats nice and juicy. I also ask him to bring a whole skewer of shrimp to start off with and to keep it coming!!

I love Ohana. Sometimes you have to keep on top of the wait staff in a nice way to get things the way you want. Most of the staff is great but some are not. If I get a piece of meat that is dry I just don't eat it. I tell them again the way I like it and request more.

I make sure everything is to my liking and leave happy everytime. And about 5 pounds heavier.
