I am so hooked on being at the WDW Parks. I The DH and I average once sometimes twice a year. But DH booked us on a 7 day cruise and I don't mean to seem un-greatful or sound spoiled, I just don't see myself as a cruiser, it sa
cares the B-Gee-Ber's out of me! For me the fun at WDW is the rides, attractions, smells and the parades and shops. I am not a water person, I am not one to want to be waited on by people who set up your meals and excursions ect.. I just love to explore the parks no matter how much I've been there. I am just worrying about just sitting on the ship or out on a beach, it's just not me. I went out and bought a passporter cruise book on the Disney Cruise Lines and after I read half way through I still was feeling like this is not for me. I felt like crying. However I know that for my DH's sake I will be cruising. I myself would rather do a 3 day cruise and the rest on land but he wants the 7 day cruiseI was hoping that someone out there knows what I'm feeling. Is there anyone out there that would rather stay at the Parks than Cruise? Or am I just afraid of something new? He booked a nice room with a verhanda, but I still would rather be at the parks...

You don't know till you try it how you really feel about the cruise.

Before I ever went to WDW I couldn't understand why anybody would want to go to 3 amusement parks for their vacation. We used to make fun of those that went to WDW.

Then my husband died. My sisters and family decided we needed to do a family vacation at WDW. They practically had to tie me up to get me to go.

Well I went. When I got to my resort I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Then I went to Epcot. Wow!!!! I was hooked.

I have lost track of how many times we have gone since that first trip 8 years ago. I was sure I wasn't going to enjoy WDW. I couldn't have been more wrong.

So you might find that about your cruise. Maybe you will find something that you really enjoy on the cruise. What a great way to cruise with Disney. If they do cruising like they do theme parks you will have a wonderful trip.

I am sure you will have a wonderful time. If it wasn't for you then you can remind hubby the next time you want to stay at the WDW resorts for your vacation.

chatty, you have my sympathy as I am not a cruiser either. It really doesn't appeal to me for many reasons. Most of my family and friends just love it though. I have told DH I would do the Alaska cruise with him but that's it. He is understanding of my issues (we all have them :o ) and we generally are able to choose vacations we both really want to do.

Have you told your DH how you feel? I think your willingness to compromise and do a 3 day cruise is a good place to start!

Good luck!:D

I really have no interest in a cruise, either.

Just doesn't appeal to me. I would really hope you talk to your DH about a land/sea package.

herc.

Cruises are sooo nice!! I guess I can't imagine NOT liking them...you dont' have to be a water person to enjoy it! Enjoy the ship...or the land when you dock! I have been on 2 cruises tho..and 7 days even for lovers like me may be enough!!
Talk to him...and tell him you'd prefer the land/sea package...make you BOTH happy! If he's already paid for it, go...have an open mind and try to enjoy the time! He obviously wanted to do something nice for you..let him!! If you dont' like it..tell him 'thanks soo much, that'll last me a lifetime :) " then...stick to the parks :)

I think you may be suprised....

though no one can compare any vacation to a disney vacation...I think you might enjoy the ship....
I have found myself in the past comparing every vacation to Disney World...which has sometimes ruined my vacation...

I was never a cruising person...but on our recent and first cruise...May '03...it turned me into one....
not all cruises involve laying on the beach...and sitting on a ship...although you have read books...so I'm guiessing you have an idea...now I dunno what ship your going on...but you honestly may be suprised...
the food is to die for...the ports of call and excursions give a great contrast...and some of the ships have more things to keep you busy then WDW...ok maybe not....

The main thing is to make the best of it....it is still a vacation...and you will be with the man you love...just because theres no mouse...or roasted turkey leg...doesn't mean you won't have a fantastic time!

I agree to talk to your husband...but I also say to ask more question about your cruise...read reviews...and look at pictures...
like I said I dunno what ship your going on...but check out...
www.cruisecrittic.com its a great site for discussion forums...ask questions...like I said you may be suprised...

I feel your pain. I would rather go to WDW than on a cruise. Yet
I have done the 3 day Disney Cruise and I did like it. It definitely had that "Disney" feel to it.

Make sure you take in all the shows!

I think you will enjoy it. Just make sure to attend all the Disneyfied events! It could be worse it could be a NON-Disney cruise (oh the horror!). Though some of those "Carnival" deals are good I have cruised with Carnival once and was bored. If I were to try again it would only be for DH.

DH has been complaining about going to WDW again so after this time I think I'll have to book a cruise to keep him happy! I'll just try to talk him into the Disney one. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I've never been on a cruise and would like to try one, but if it was a toss up between a WDW vacation and a cruise I would go for WDW every time. I guess I'm spoiled that way. lol. I agree with the idea about trying the land/sea thing though. Who knows....you might like it.

WDWOBSESSED,SHELLE99,HANDSFULL,VICB,and SAFETYMOM, You guys are AWESOME! Thank You for your input and resources and the pictures and web sites will give me alot to look at and to think about. Thank You so much again..

chatty ~ it's one week out of your life!

I can't imagine anyone hating it - but if it does not thrill you ~ you can be brave and muddle through and dream of your next adventure to Disney.

You can also meet other DIS'ers on your cruise and have some fun ~ here is a link to see who is sailing with you and some nice cruise photos.

http://www.casshew.com/cruisebydate.htm

You can also add your name if you like. Who knows maybe you will love it! There are great Disney shows in the evening and entertainment in the lounges, there are threatres showing first run movies, there is a salon & spa and several pools to sit by with a tropical drink.

Castaway Cay is an amazing beach day ~ the other ports you can chose to explore or just stay on board and relax.

Good Luck!

Chatty:

I was in the same boat as you are three years ago (pun intended) while planning our May, 2001 vacation. DH said absolutely no more WDW. We hadn't been there in 16 years, and he didn't see any reason to go back. I said I absolutely didn't even want to try cruising. I get seasick in the bathtub LOL, I've had skin cancer so I don't bask in the sun. I don't really like to join in planned activities, and I don't particularly enjoy being waited on hand and foot (weird, I know, but I have a very strong independent streak).

OK, so we compromised. Four nights at WDW for me, a four night DCL cruise for him. Well, he really enjoyed WDW. For us, it was the first trip without our son (now grown and has a family of his own), and it was an entirely different place without a kid. I loved the cruise. There was no pressure to do anything. I enjoyed the food, the servers were wonderful and seemed to realize that I didn't like being "over pampered". There were plenty of shady places for me to sit on deck and enjoy the pool and the sea breeze, I loved the shows in the evenings, and I never felt the ship moving at all.

I enjoyed our second cruise even more, because I wasn't dreading all the awful things I thought would happen on the first one! We're taking one more four-night cruise in December, and then I think we're going to try the seven night.

There are plenty of pictures of our trips at the links in my signature.

We did our first 7 night Disney cruise last Nov. and had the BEST time! My in-laws joined us as well as my husband's brother and sister. Eight of us in total ages ranging from 2 to 82. My mother in-law was skeptical about going she doesn't swim or like the beach and the whole being on a boat idea made her nervous. I can't tell you how much she enjoyed herself. So much in fact that all of us our going on another 7 night this May. I hope you have a great cruise!

I understand how you feel. I definitely do not consider myself a "cruise" person either. I really can't see myself ever doing a cruise- Disney or not. I entertain the idea in my head at times- but I don't think I'll ever really do it (and my husband is not the type to plan a cruise or trip on his own as a surprise or not- so not going to ever happen LOL)

With that said though- he's planned it and if I were you I'd try to go into it with an open mind. Perhaps try to talk him into a compromise with land/sea trip but if not (or it can't be changed now without huge penalties or something)- I hope you end up having fun anyway! I have heard and read that it's really a lot of fun- even for the kids too- but I do understand your feelings. I would feel the same way. And it WOULD really bother me spending all that money on a cruise when I'd enjoy WDW so much more (or another vacation somewhere else- NOT on a cruise LOL) It's just not my idea of fun either (but perhaps it would be if I tried it- who knows) and I think I'd be scared the whole time too. I don't deal well with large bodies of water where even little fish are- let alone huge animals are (even non-violent ones like dolphins, whales, etc.). It's just me... I'm even a little scared when we go out on big lakes in the boat- just boating or fishing/etc. I have overcome that- but that usually only lasts a few hours or most part of a day.... not days and days and days in water with even bigger "fishies".

Too many jaws movies in my day I think. LOL

Oh and before anyone says that big cruise ships are totally different than boats- yes, you are right.... but even big ships sink.

I loved the movie Titanic but if the first thought in your mind as you put yourself in the place of the main character was that you'd never have survived because you would have had a heart attack (literally and seriously) being in that water with everything ELSE that is in that water- cruises would not your idea of fun no matter how big the cruise ship or how safe it really is or how little the risk of sinking/etc would be. LOL

Try it...you'll love it! If not at least you can say you did it. Since you go to WDW two times a year, this will be different for you but still have the Disney magic. I agreed about the land/sea pkg. I don't want to miss the parks (we only go yearly!).

Do yourself a favor and GO. I'm sure you will not be disappointed. We've had to put our cruising on hold until my 18mo old son is a little older (I can just hear it now..BABY OVERBOARD) But if it were me I would choose a cruise anytime even over WDW. My DH recently surprised me with a cruise with my girlfriends in January out of San Juan. I just can't contain myself. Go with an open mind, but be careful, you too could become hooked!

chatty,

I know I know. My DW signed us up for our first cruise next MLK day - I'm not sure how it'll be, but I'm keeping an open mind. You might end up being pleasantly surprised; my DW sounded just like you about Las Vegas. Before she went for the first time, she thought she'd hate it - now we go at least a couple of times a year!
Trust a fellow Clinton Townshipper (does 19 Mile and Romeo Plank sound familiar?) - have a positive attitude and you'll have a great time.

Do you think your DH would like to take me instead?
My DH is also not really interested in cruising.
Maybe we could work out a swap?:p
