I was flying from MSP last week and some fool put a soft sided cooler in the overhead bin, and then was stupid enough to turn it on it's side! Needless to say my computer bag got soaked which did not make me a happy camper. I know alot of people here have mentioned how they are going to pack a lunch for the plane, just please be considerate and make sure your cooler will fit under the seat in front of you, standing up.

It's generally a bad idea to carry actual ice in any case, unless it is in something like a sealed screw-top bottle. Far better to use cold-paks, which do not leak.

I know from my days in the food industry that it is illegal to ship more than 10 pounds dry ice by air, because of the suffocation hazard.

Generally, the FAA allows individuals to pack 4 pounds or less of dry ice in carry-ons or checked packages for packing perishables. The package must be able to vent the CO2 and the airline must be notified that you have it. I know that Delta allows it as indicated on their website, but other airlines may not. Cargo shipments typically have different restrictions and may have an allowance more than 4 pounds.

Or rollerblades. I saw one fall out once and land on top of someone's head. Ouch!!
