Please don't pay full price for XM Radio

It all depends on what kind of connectors you have in the van. Do you have and Auxillary-In or a cassette player? If not and depending on where you live, you may be able to use an FM transmitter. These options are assuming that you do not have bluetooth in the van that is capable of carrying audio.

I don't see an audio in. We have no cassette player. We have a CD player.

A 2007 Town and Country with the DVD package (??)

I use a blu tooth fm transmitter connected to my phone:

hmmm...

It's been working great for the past year.

I have always dealt with Sirius because I'm in it for Howard Stern. I have taken advantage of the 6 months for $25 in my car but have a portable that I have always payed full price for because I feel it is worth the $12-13 a month I spend for it. I think the service they provide is fantastic for the cost but that being said, if Howard goes I will go and I think the whole satellite industry will follow. The only thing keeping them in business is Stern but I still think what they provide is great. I love not having to switch stations multiple times while going down the road so I can hear the football game. I'm all for people getting the best deal possible but am offended by the ones who act like XM/Sirius is ripping people off with a $13 monthly rate, they are providing a fantastic service to those of us who live in rural areas. That being said, I will cancel when Howard Stern leaves and that is the point that I think XM/SIRIUS will die!

The one I linked to connects through a power port or cigarette lighter port.

No audio in needed. I also used in in our 2005 van.

Yes, it broadcasts over an FM Station. This may not work if you live in a metropolitan area due to over saturation of the FM spectrum. If you are in a more rural area, it should work fine.

[Edit]
I just noticed that GAGirlInVA is in Virginia. If she is in Northern Virginia, it is unlikely that an FM transmitter will work.

I have no problem with it in Rochester, NY.

In fact, sometimes a station comes through the radio when the transmitter is off. But, as soon as I turn the transmitter on, I don't hear any static or anything.

It happened to me as well when my service was renewed with $55 more!

Service providers are willing to offer the better deals for short term commitments as they count on the fact that you will forget calling to renew your service when it expires. Then they renew your service with much higher costs without you paying attention.

One of my friends told me about RemindMe2Save which help keep track of all your service providers ( xm, cable, gas..) expiration dates in one place (for easy tracking), when its time to renew it will remind you to call them and keep the low price going!

Has anyone gotten a deal for the internet radio. I have the $25 for six months, but would like to add the internet radio option.

For the last 2 years, I have called and requested the "low rate I've seen on the internet" (whatever it is at that time) and I have gotten them to ask their "manager" to give them permission to give me the lower rate and have always been successful! Just dont give up...call back and ask another agent if the first one refuses... SO worth it to get a deep discount!:rotfl:

We got the invoice for DH's car last week, $180. I called and said I wanted to cancel. The rep. offered $116 a year. I said no, not worth it sorry. She offered $86. Nope, still not worth it. She said what can we do, and I said I got an offer for $25 for my van, but I'm not interested. If she wanted to give us that rate for his car, that is the only way we'd renew. She said okay, so that with all the tax and stuff is $34 for 6 months. I think you have to be ready to walk away, and we are VERY ready to do that. It is not worth the full price. We like Pandora, but you have to run that off your data plan and it really burns it up.

That's the one I use, too. I have a 2005 vehicle that was in between technological eras: no cassette player (so no cassette adapter capability), and no aux/built-in bluetooth, either. I tried 3 different FM transmitters before trying the X2 Bluetooth transmitter--it's the best.

I appreciate the thread. Contrary to the PP who implied people were trying to get XM for free, we don't mind paying for it in DW's car: we just don't want to pay "rack rate."

I know this is an old thread but.... I canceled XM last year...not worth much to me anyway... for the reason OP outlined. It's not worth all the hoops and hassle to get a deal every 6 months. I hated dealing with that- so that was it. Just got an email offering 6 months for 20.00....don't think I'll bother. If I could get a year at one low price, and no hassle to re-enroll later, then maybe.

Imho they are way too expensive for what honestly isn't very good programming. If you listen to the same station you can realize the music re-loops after an period of time and not a long period of time... I have it in my truck but back in 2009 they offered life time for $399...so i feel i got a ok deal. Every year they are in business it gets cheaper every year. I basically use my phone for music and use Sirius to listen to Fox News. Nothing else...

Just renewed for another 6 months for $25. It took me 10 minutes to reduce the subscription fee by about 300%.

A sales rep told me basically to take a walk, would not lower the price. I cancelled.
I received letters in the mail, and I got a renewal for $8 a month, but I. Had to pay for a full years subscription. I think it is bogus that they charge your card for renewal without letting you know.
