I know that everyone knows this and I have even seen it here before....but I didn't do it and last week my hard drive died and I lost everything :sad2: . I have been coming to this site for about a year and all of the wonderful designers have made so many wonderful things for me (over 50 different designs for our next trip and other personal stuff) and like an idiot, I didn't save backup discs for any of it. This also includes all of our family pictures for the last 3 years.

I have been in tears for 3 days but realize at this point that I made a stupid mistake and there is nothing I can do, so I need to get over it and go on from here. Thankfully I wrote down all of the designers id's and designs that you all did for me so I can go back through your buckets and threads and see what I can find.

I just wanted to post this to tell anyone that has been putting off backing up anything....stop now, go to Walmart, buy some CD's and put your designs and anything else important on them today....don't wait!

To Kari, Amy, Donatalie, Telynn, Taekwondo Mom, k_fawver, Glenna74, hmcfall711 and others:

Thank you so much for your wonderful designs, I knew I loved them when you made them for me, but didn't realize how much until they were gone! :sad1:

I'm so sorry:sad1: I also lost some of my family pictures when a camera of ours wasn't working and we failed to get our pictures developed for a year and a half. I was going through a difficult pregnancy and did'nt realize dh wasn't getting the film developed and I wasn't either. The birth of my son was when we finally discovered it. I also had a two year old at the time that didn't like to go to a photographer, and so most of the pictures I "thought" I had were snapshots. Beautiful pictures of both of my daughters in matching Christmas dresses , standing in front of the church singing "away in the manger", doing hand motions were also lost. Then I told myself that maybe God will let me see those moments again when I'm with him one day and it dosen't seem so bad. People who have never lost pictures thought I was over reacting but it was hard on me until I looked at it this way. :flower3:

that just makes me ill thinking about it! i am SO sorry to hear that! try and email family and friends to see what they have, my sister lost her stuff and a lot of us had pics that she email us, so she recovered many. also, in the meantime you can go with carbonite, that's who i use which also helps if i were to have anything in the house damaged (fire, flood, etc), it's kept on backup with them.

Talk to a computer repair place. A few years ago we lost everything and they were able to recover them off our harddrive even though the hard drive was not fixable. The computer repair person told me that most times they can recover most things.
Still we now have an external Hard drive that we use for our backup, plus I try to load most of the to the internet. Keep in mind that CDs and DVDs also can become easily damaged.

When my computer died I thought I had lost everything for good, I was able to find someone who removed my hard drive and put it in an external case and I am able to connect it to new computer and access the information on it.

Hopefully all is not lost.

Sonya,

I am so sorry this happened to you.

 I hope that your stuff can be recovered.

It's a good reminder for me. It's been about 4-5 months since I backed up pics on CDs.

PM me with any designs of mine that need to be redone.

Thanks everyone!

Kari....I wanted to tell you that the minute I walked in the door with my new computer (I went with a laptop), after it was all set up, I immediately came to DIS and went to your photo bucket and found the Potato Heads you did for me for HS! You were so patient with me while you were designing those for me and I literally sighed with relief when I found them. I printed them on transfers immediately! Then I went to Amy's to get the Georgia Bulldog things she had done for me! I then went to my email and guess who had boo'd me.....both you and Amy! :goodvibes

Island Cricket, Cerberus, Mrs.Heg:

Can you tell me what sort of repair shop you took yours to....a mom/pop or like Best Buy? We have a small place here that everyone uses for different things, but I am frankly scared to decide who I should trust it with. The place that told me the hard drive was gone couldn't or wouldn't recommend anyone, but did tell me that everything was indeed still there....any thoughts?

Thanks again,
Sonya

The place I used, is a computer store that builds their own computer systems. Maybe call a couple of the places you have near you and see what they think about your situation then go with who you felt most comfortable with. Also ask around...your friends....coworkers...and see if anyone has used anyone for something similar. Hope that helps :goodvibes

I second the OP. I recently lost everything I had saved on my computer too. I was having my computer worked on, and the technician assured me that nothing would be lost, but I had a "Disney" folder stuffed full of DISigns that vanished! From now on I will back EVERYTHING up!
