Please don't do this..

I don't think the OP was complaining. This is my take:

- The OP is a volunteer.

- She (he) indicated that cash is easier (lighter) to deal with than coin.

- She asked (cheerfully) that people "consider" making payment in cash instead of coin.

I'm glad she mentioned this. I hadn't ever thought of this. I like to make things easier for people who volunteer their time.

Again...thanks OP. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Hound 109! You got exactly to the heart of what I was saying. :)

I actually know the woman who paid in coin and she's a really nice person. I'm sure she used the coin because it was convenient to her and didn't even consider that it might cause me a minor inconvenience.

My post was intended more as a Public Service Announcement to let others know that when you can use bills (or checks) instead of coins, it's appreciated.

I'm the PTO Treasurer this year. To be a voting member of the PTO, you have to pay $10 in membership dues. These dues aren't required at any particular time. We've already had our first PTO meeting and the next one is 3 weeks away. Yet, I had one woman who sent in her membership dues (sent in her child's backpack to school and then through the school mail system to me) in the form of a $5 bill, three $1 bills, a $1 coin and ten dimes.

If this is something you would consider doing, please wait to submit your membership dues until you have two more $1 bills. It's hard enough keeping track of all of the checks and cash without having to deal with coins.

Was it in an envelope, sealed?? If it was I wouldn't complain. I would be irritated but not complain. JMHO

I am not sure why it should matter what form of job this mother has. At least she is involved in her child's education.

Paying the tuition bill doesn't mean a parent is involved in the child's education. Paying the tuition bill means they are involved in the financial aspects of a child's education. Big difference.

We have a lot of families who pay tuition bills yet don't bother w/their child's education (ie: making sure homework gets done, working w/their child, attending child's performances at school, etc).

Where did I say the job mattered, anyway?!

As a former PTO treasurer, coins are legal tender and therefore something you will have to deal with. Just part of the job. Wait until you have to deal with all the coins from candy sales or snow cones, etc. Have the PTO invest in a coin counter and wrapper. It will make your job easier.

I understand your frustration. But just be glad she paid and in a timely manner; that's one less person whose dues you have to worry about!
