Please do NOT go to Disney World if you (or your children) are sick

And in all fairness, people are going to 'barf' at Disney and you can't necessarily assume they're sick. I was pretty sure I was going to lose my lunch after Test Track, I'll tell you!

I think that people getting the flu vacine is very important. I am lucky enough to live in Canada where my city has more than enough for everyone, and it is also free. If you have the flu you are contageous for the day before you get sick, to about a week after you get sick.

Here is a new case(granted it is a single boy) that I heard about on the news this morning...very sad.

All of the experts in this thread claiming that H1N1 is not serious or severe are spreading the same kind of misinformation as Fox News. The H1N1 can be extremely severe as it takes 5-6 hours from first symptom onset to full on fever. It is often accompanied by pneumonia which is the real killer for most. My Grand Nephew was just released from the hospital after 3 days because the hospital needed the bed. He is still listed as serious but the Visiting Nurses are treating him at home. Don't think this is not serious because the one you hurt the most could be your neighbor, the person on the plane next to you or the next person who takes the elevator you just used. :headache:

When we went in 2003 we all left home healthy. Part way into our trip I became very ill vomiting and diarreha. We stayed at the resort until it was over. When I was fine with a little queasy stomach we went out. Then a couple days later we went to MK and I thought I was good to go on the t-cups. Well, I was not. I made it all the way past the monorail and then on the exit ramp the nausea just took over me. I had to lean over the rail and throw up leaving the MK. I was horrified. The day we were leaving my middle DS who was 5 at the time got sick. He was fine, we walked into a gift shop and he threw up all over. Again, pure mortification. We had already checked out of our hotel. Our flight was leaving that afternoon. I was not going to cancel we had to get home. He did use a barf bag on the plane as we were landing. The flight attendent was very nice and put a cold pack on his neck and made him feel as comfortable as possible.

I'll wait to see how the first round, or two, or three, or four rounds of shots go.

My Trip is 12/12-12/18. We already sat down and had a family meeting. If we are showing signs of sickness ,specifically FLU, 5 days before departure,as disappointed we all will be , we will NOT be going. We travel by air and are not about to infect everyone around us so we can have a good time.

Your vacation doesn't benefit anyone but you and your own.
There's nothing to be gained by others from your vacationing.
Vacation is a self serving, pampering time.
You are doing it for your own self enjoyment, I don't get enjoyment from your vacation.
Hence a selfish act.

Who are you, Bobby Jindal? You argue like you're a politician.

Since I enjoy all the hypotheticals being tossed around how about this one?

Someone in my family is currently ill, but we are driving to WDW. We'll only be in contact with each other for the trip. The person who is ill is 2 days into their sickness. We arrive in WDW 2 days later, and we spend the first day staying in with the sick person. The next day they are feeling better and off we go to the parks.

Should we have canceled in this case? As I said before, there are far too many variables involved to make any sort of blanket statement about canceling trips.

Geez people, just use common sense. I don't think anyone is advocating you stay home if you have a cold or even a minor virus. The swine flu is another matter however and while it can be mild in some cases, it can also be serious. My next door neighbor had it and came down with pneumonia and he was sick for 2 weeks. My trip is in one week and if my kids spike a high fever in the next few days that persists past a day or two I most likely will cancel even though I will lose some money because of it. Honestly, if I were that sick I'd rather be at home then on vacation with less access to medical care.

Maybe the title should read "actively sick" I was in the nurses station in early October and a mom brough a young girl, maybe 6 or 7 in. They were there for another dose of Motrin because the girls fever was back. This poor kid was glassy eyed, flushed and looked miserable. That kid absolutely did NOT need to be in Disney World.

I say if you'd keep them home from school, then you keep them home from Disney. Maybe not cancel your trip, but stay in your room and get some rest.

Some posters sarcasm is so unnecessary. I think it's common sense what the OP meant as far as being 'sick'. As others have said, if you or your children are running a high fever or experiencing other severe symptoms of illness, please don't come to Disney. If you are at Disney and start to run a fever, be courteous and stay in your hotel room. Children do not have fun at Disney when they are sick! Neither do adults for that matter. CM's have lots of contact with Guests as well. So for the sake of those who work to make your vacation special, and the other Guests around you, please take the steps needed to ensure you don't spread illness around Disney World.

There are lots of issues here and the choices have to be made individually. My sister was on chemo to buy time not to cure and she wanted to take her grandbabies one more time. Flu risk would have been negligible to her. People with hiv will never be not hiv. Should they just not go ever?

I have strep throat and went to the store yesterday because I had to pick up soup and I live alone with family too far away to help. I went early in the morning and only 1 or 2 people were there.

Last Christmas everyone in our group caught a stomach virus and we missed most of our vacation. Sure wish someone contagious had stayed at home but they probably didn't know until too late.

Last September, on our first full day at WDW, DD7 started complaining of a headache while we were waiting to be seating at Akershus for lunch. We figured it was just the heat, so we went on into lunch.

During lunch, she didn't really want to eat, but she got up and smiled huge for each and every princess picture and enjoyed herself.

Once we got done, DH felt her head and realized that she was pretty warm, so we headed back to the resort. We gave her some Tylenol and let her sleep for a bit and by that evening, she was back to normal.

I think it's a hard decision for a parent to make while on vacation or close to a vacation. You have to do what you feel is right, but I think we all would have been very disappointed if we packed up and drove home only to find out she was better later the same day. (the drive is only about 7 hours)

Was I about to drag her around the park the rest of the afternoon? No way! Was I disappointed in missing an afternoon at the park? Of course!

I think of it as more a question of how much DD would enjoy the vacation than keeping other people healthy to me.

My 12yo has allergies and is always sniffling this time of year. I am sure we will get some nasty looks in wdw. :)
But the worst for her is flying (ear pressure). I'll have to ask her doctor if there is anything that will actually work now. The pain can make her cry.
Anyone have suggestions?

I am a CM and you wouldn't believe how many people that I work with have gotten sick lately.

No kidding. Those princesses should get hazard pay. How deep IS that bullpen anyway? I guess we're gonna find out. They don't even have the furry costumes to hide behind.
