I've been looking into Vero, have never seen it. We toured HH this summer and thought it was wonderful. We were especially attracted to the programs they offer for families. Does Vero have comparable family programs? Is it a similar experience, and is there anywhere to ride bikes?

We're trying to figure out if either of these resorts would be a better idea for spring break. Since we have an AP it would be nice to go to Vero and use a weekend at WDW.

Thanks for any input.

VB has a family campfire a few times a week which ends with everyone enjoying s'mores. We were there in May and August this year and there were talks and beachwalks lead by AK naturalists regarding the many sea turtles that come to the area to nest. There was a night that Pirates of the Caribbean was shown in a conference room in August. There was a DJ by the pool. There's 9 hole mini-golf for a slight fee, it may even be free to members on a certain day.

You can rent bikes at Eb and Flo's, we've done that twice now and took the round trip ride on the Historic Jungle trail. We did it by ourselves, but the resort does offer group trips, I know there was a sign up for that.

I've never been to HH, so can't compare. We do love VB, and so have the guests that we've brought with us. We've had an 11 year old cousin as a guest and she found lots to do.

I've been to both several times and I prefer Hilton Head. However, Vero is great also and it's really nice to combine with a WDW visit. Vero for me is a 3 night maximum, resort, while I could easily do a week at Hilton Head. Hilton Head has more overall then Vero - but it's kind of hard to describe.

The ocean is visible and accessible from the main resort at Vero. Hilton head has a separate beach house at oceanfront, the resort is on it's own island. The community surrounding HH is a resort community with resort activities like great biking trails, etc. Vero is located next to condos. -

Thanks for the info. So, would others agree that this is a resort for shorter visits? Any other info on programs or thing to do?

We love the beach, so we could just do that for several days before anyone thought, "What should we do now?" but I like to know how long to plan for.

We have stayed at both, and much prefer Vero.
I love the relaxing, no plans, wake up and do what you want feeling at VB. Take a walk on the beach, followed by a dip in the pool, a cocktail on the balcony of the Green Cabin Room, then get ready for a nice dinner.
I suppose you could do similar stuff at HH, but it seems different. The HH resort seems more like a place to stay while visiting Hilton Head, where as the Vero Resort feels more like a vacation in itself.

The Vero resort truly looks like a beach resort, as it is brighter, and sunnier (is that a word?). There seemed to be lots of shade from all the trees at HH.

We have enjoyed both resorts, and will return to both, but we will return to VB nearly every vacation.

Something tells me you will have fun at either resort! :drinking:

Well, I have a feeling you're right!

They both look beautiful, and we can't wait to try them.

Here's a vote for HH over Vero...the Vero area was interesting but not magical. Proximity to WDW is a plus but I'd rather just STAY at WDW next time. DH loved Vero though...to each his own.

We have loved HH ever since our first visit in 2000. This year we decided to try out Vero Beach since we wanted to attend a Mets Spring Training game. Here is my comparison.

Hilton Head is a more homey- comfy feel about the decore and resort in general. Vero Beach has a more Flagler-like turn of the century ambience about it. Still relaxing, but a little more upscale. This is not to say anything negative about HH. HH is wonderful, just a different atmosphere.

Kid activities - Both resorts get an A++ from my 10 year old. DS loved the putt-putt length of stay pass offered at Vero Beach. He could play anytime he wanted without having to get us together and take a car trip.

Pros for Vero
---It is really nice to have the beach right outside the resort at Vero. We had a pool view room that had a partial ocean view - loved it.

---Croquet on the lawn is totally fun.

---Family Dining on-site.

---Tennis and Basketball Courts on property.

---Nice walking trail across street around mini-lake

-- Great location for MLB Spring training - Dodgertown - 5 minutes away. 45 minute drive to Port St Lucie for the Mets

Cons for Vero

---very secluded - No shopping nearby-Not many activities nearby offsite. 25 - 30 minute drive to a sit down resturant. At HH, you could walk to nearby off property dining options.

In summary - Vero is what you have come to expect with any Disney Property. It is beautiful and well maintained. The staff is great. It is perfect for the Beach Vacation Type Families.

Sadly that is not us. We like spend a few hours at the beach, but like to spend most of our time doing other stuff too. Hilton Head is still my favorite DVC resort. It fits our family to a tee.

They are both wonderful places.

I've visited HH on a trip to another resort there...very nice...would go there in a heartbeat!

We spent Spring Break at Vero last year...probably the best, most relaxing (yet still busy enough for the kids) vacation we've ever had (other than the nightmare traffic on the drive down there). Lots of fun activities...great villas...wonderful CMs. In April, the weather will be much warmer than HH. The beach is wonderful now (used to be very narrow). Resort is small enough to let older kids roam a bit. My 7yo spent 50% of the daylight hours on the mini golf course. :cool1:

I have a Word document with tips about Vero (inside and outside the resort)...PM me if you'd like it...I'll be glad to email it to you.
