did anyone else notice - on our last trip there were actually English speaking Americans workings as maids again.

so hopefully the language problem won't be a problem for much longer.

Not at the Beach Club. The housekeeper I just mentioned was on our last trip, just 19 days ago.

As the OP, and having read all the replies indicating everyone's annoyance at people not following the rules, why don't we petition DVC to get them to 'fine' people who check out after 11am ($100?). I know they could not catch everone, but they seem to know that a lot of people are doing this. The money raised could be used to keep our annual dues down. I am so glad (though not surprised) that so many people agree with me that rules are meant to be observed.

well darn it - I was hoping it was for all the DVC resorts. but on my last 2 trips to OKW - definitely got an American who english was better than mind.

Shovan, I seem to recall that the bathrooms by the quiet pool are single rooms so you could help your husband there.

The Polynesian used to have a companion restroom although it wasn't marked that way.

We try to get out early..by 8 or 9am but last time we were right at 11. I was the last one in the room and called Housekeeping as I always do to let them know we're gone. This was the first time I reached someone who seemed clueless why I was calling. She wanted to know if I wanted them to come and clean right away.:confused3

Thanks BCV23! We'll have to ask about that on our next trip. I would have thought that the BC management would have mentioned it, when we requested late checkout for that reason.

As you know we were long time Poly addicts & don't remember them having a companion restroom. But that was also pre-DVC days & a later checkout wasn't a big deal at the Poly!

I don't know that I'd want to petition for fines. It would be just my luck that I'd be five minutes late getting out of the room & get hit with a $100.00 fine!!!;)

Just a thought! You're correct, I suppose. But these people that don't care about how their behaviour impacts on others really bug me!

that other place starts with $100 but every hour after adds another $100 (might be $50)

so if you leave your room at 2:00pm instead of 11 am - you would be charged $300 extra.

I don't understand some DVC Owners at all!

This makes me so mad!

I mean, I am an OWNER! I paid a lot of money to buy my points, and I pay my outrageous MF each and every year.

I own a percentage of theis resort, and I'll check-out when I'm good and ready.

You self-hating, apologetic Owners are what are wrong with the DVC.

If a Manager or Mousekeeper ever tried to rush me and my family, I'd just point out, that I pay their salaries, if they don't like it they should quit, or go work at SSR!

Now, on the other hand, when we arrive at 10:30 AM or so, our room better be ready (I know about the 'after 4PM rule'). And if it's not I just point out that.....

Maybe it is a NorthEast 'bad' DVCer thing. You guys are way to soft and accomidating. No wonder poop is smeared on your bathroom doors!

And that guy who didn't pay for 'loosing' the safe key, why he ripped all of us honest, dues paying, reasonable & responsable DVC Owners off! That manager should be fired! ;)

Yes, this is one of 'those' posts.....

I have never checked out late either. I also have gone to the front desk to let them know we are out. We do travel during a slow period though.

We weren't able to get our 2BDRM at the BCV until 4:15 our last trip. We arrived at the BC at 11:00 and the CM at the front desk said she would let housekeeping know we had arrived. We checked back with the front desk at about 2:30 and the room still wasn't ready. When we checked at 4:00 and the room still wasn't ready - we were upset. The only reason why the room was ready at 4:15 was because of our persistence. Guests arrive all day (from early in the morning to late at night). Is there any way for the BC front desk to let housekeeping know what rooms to take care of based on when the guests check in?

We had a late flight out (8:30 PM) and we were out of the room by 10:45 AM. I would never think to stay after 11:00 because I don't want the next guest to have to wait for our room.

A given manager might not even know about it. Or on the other hand, it might not occur to him/her....those of us who have a disabled loved one have to think outside the box a bit more sometimes I think.

And to be clear I'm speaking of the bathrooms by the BCV pool not the BC quiet pool. Sure hope I'm not wrong. Our daughter is able to use the restroom on her own but I remember thinking it would be an easy one for her to use the one time I was in it.

The old one at the Polynesian was just marked with either a wheelchair symbol or the dual men/women's symbol.......or maybe both. Anyway, it was across the hall from the old shops on the first floor. The restrooms are now located there since the renovation.

Tony, your attitude doesn't surprise me in the least.:lmao:

If we have a late flight, we get the room for an extra night rather than get out at 11:00. That way we can enjoy ourselves, shower and change and then head to the airport. It's a bit of a waste of points, I know.
And, if I have ever needed to check out a little late...say 11:30 or 12:00, I always check with the front desk to see if it's OK.
John

We do this on the front end of trips. Being on the west coast we generally take a red eye flight when traveling east. I just hate wasting a day traveling when I could just do it at night and sleep.

What we do is book a hotel for the night we are traveling so when we get in at some ungodly hour the next morning there is a room waiting for us.

We have not tried this with DVC but it has worked with other hotels. When making the reservation you tell them that first night will be late check in...the next morning...because you will be on a red eye.

OMG.....:rotfl: Mashed potatos just came out of my nose!

Glad I wasn't eating anything spicy!

Ok, I just had a John Belushi, Animal House, type visual going on for a second there.

It is still breakfast time on the west coast people!!!! Ok, I am done eating.

;) ;)

In noticed more English speaking housekeepers at OKW in December too, Pat. It actually surprised me a bit.

I like the hourly fee being charged as well.

Since we like to check in early if we can-sometimes we drive down and get there earlier than 4-this would increase our chances of having a room ready when we arrive...

Now, is getting into your room early being as much of a scofflaw as leaving late? It's time over what you're allotted, no matter what.

i say no....for 2 reasons....

1. what's the resort going to do with those rooms that are cleaned and ready to go prior to 400p if they didn't allow early check-in? they'd just be setting there collecting dust...

2. the rules are CHECK-IN EARLY = YES / CHECK-OUT LATE = NO...

if i'm not inconveniencing anybody, and i'm not breaking any rules, then i won't feel bad....
