You may save yourself a headache.

Having more than one at the same place will confuse things a lot. Two will pop up on their screen and they will pick whichever one is higher. This happened to us once and we were at the counter for 45 minutes straightening it out.

Also, if everyone cancels what they don't need maybe prices will come down even lower. ;)

Thanks and have great trips everyone!!

When people are looking for the absolute lowest rate, they book one hoping it will be the lowest, find another that's cheaper and don't cancel the first. Since most places do not take a credit card deposit, it's easy to forget to cancel the first one.
I've spoke to rental agents at MCO and they say this happens frequently. :)

I've only made a car rental reservation once, and I ended up not using it.

Originally, we were going to stay offsite the first night and needed a one-way rental to get us to our offsite hotel the first nite, then on to WDW the next day.

However, at the last minute the morning of our flight, I was able to snag the first night at WDW.

I didn't cancel the car then cause it was still cheaper than Mears for the two of us, but then our flights were delayed, and when we finally arrived at MCO, we were really tired and didn't feel like dealing with driving, etc., so we blew off the car rental and got one way Mears tickets.

Right now I've got car reservations that I may not use for my December trip, but I will definitely cancel them if I make up my mind not to use them.

I would never think of not cancelling reservations. You could have people standing at the ticket counter waiting for a car...waiting....waiting....because the CSR is waiting for you to show for your reservation. Not only that but if you have multiple reservations and only plan to use one, when another person tries to book their may not be anything available. I think this is an important thing to remember. Think if you were in the other person's shoes.

Why wouldn't you just modify your reservation to get the lower rate instead of setting up a new reservation? I have already modified my reservation with Dollar about 6 times to ensure that I have the best rate. It would be silly to try to keep the original reservation as it is for a higher rate. I have a hard enough time keeping track of my one reservation I can't imagine trying to juggle more than one.

Why, because they're stupid like I was! ;) I didn't realize that I could modify a ressie and twice made new ressies when the rental car rates dropped (and I did cancel the old ones) before I looked a little closer and saw the modify button... The next time the rates went down I did modify my ressie, which was a lot easier. :teeth:

I currently have two ressies, one for a fullsize and one for a minivan, since my mom might rent an ECV for the trip and I decided that a fullsize would have a hard time fitting an EVC. I will cancel one when I decide (will probably keep the minivan just in case).

Hey Tigger&Belle no name calling on the DIS!!!! One might say you really deserve that low rate because you worked extra extra hard to get it!!

Yes, I have been working hard to get those rates. Of course, once my fullsize rate got nice and low I turned around and started with the minivan. Actually, one of my favorite quotes is "I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid". :)

Some of the sites make it very easy to modify. Others do not. In the past National has had some major glitches on it's site.

Also, people will make reservations at several different companies and never bother to cancel what they don't use. :)

Because sometimes you will not get the best rate by modifing your ressie. Depends on the rental company. Often it is best to book a new one and cancel the old one.

With National, "modifying" a reservation keeps the rates that were in effect at the time of the reservation. This is good if you're modifying to apply a discount code or a coupon, but it doesn't help if you want to modify because the rates themselves have dropped.

I'm not sure how the National site responds if your change includes a date change - my dates are almost always carved in stone well in advance, so I don't think I've tried it.

Usually I go through the site and check as if I was making a new reservation. If the rates are cheaper I go through and modify my reservation. This works at both Dollar and Thrifty. :flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

I usually cancel any unused reservations but for some reason (at least with National) they still show up in the system.

I'm glad I'm not the only ones who cancels and rebooks for a better rate. The other day I was talking to a FastBreak agent at Budget. Her first comment out of her mouth after pulling my record was "whoa you have a lot of bookings and cancels". I wanted to tell her if your company would just give me the best rate from the beginning I wouldn't do that. Anyway, does anyone know how to modify on the Budget website. I don't seem to be able too..so I just rebook...I've tried to be real good about cancelling.
