Please Be Gentle: Stupid Question about my contracts/points

Good morning everyone.

Last year, I purchased a VGF resale contract for 154 points with a December Use Year (all my contracts have December Use Years). I have already been using this contract. This morning I went to extend a night on a trip for Feb 2024 at the VGF and this is the screen that came up. The contract had a little lock button at the top (never noticed this before) and I had to borrow points from 2024 to extend the reservation. Why was I not able to use the 88 points expiring in the 2023 Use Year? Is it because the trip is in 2024?

The latest contract I bought through resale last year was my first resale purchase and it had all the points attached (I think?). I did not bank anything from it.

With full disclosure, I will share that I have owned DVC since 2000 and managing use years/points/accounts is not my biggest strength.... . So please be gentle and help me understand what's happening (if you can)? I will call member services when they open at 9am but I don't want them to laugh at me either....

The locked contract is because you booked during your home resort period so that one had to be used.

Based on the screenshot, you have 88 2023 points to use for the trip and the rest need to be borrowed.

Those 88 points would be part of what you originally booked as when you modify, it includes the points you need for what was booked.

Oh goodness, that makes sense! That's why my VB contract is not showing up --because I am booking at 11 months and not 7 months.

And that makes sense...thank you so much @Sandisw -- I was so worried that I had a stack of points that I would have to use this year that were going to go to waste. I appreciate your help so much!!

I'll also add that there is something about the December use year that seems extra confusing to me. Our two contracts are Dec as well, and I'm always confused about which year we are in when booking since we tend to bank and borrow each year!
