Please be courteous to the security folks!

Cargo shorts, people!

The no-bag line is the best!

Just try it, get one pair of cargo shorts to wear one day in the parks, you'll be a believer!
Y'a know . . . I think I might just take you up on that! Great idea. The main reason for me is that when I wear a fanny pack, my back hurts by the end of the day. :flower:

Then I suggest you don't get behind me because my backpack will not be unzipped. It is on the back of my wheelchair and I can't reach it. I'm not lazy. The security guards are kind enough to unzip and rezip it for me and I appreaciate their help. I don't need any judgemental people behind me complaining.

Then why do you bring it if you cannot reach it????? You must have someone traveling with you to help you with it. This person could be in charge of unzipping it for you!!!! PHULEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I witnessed this lady huffing and puffing at a female security guard. I guess the guard wanted her to open her case for her sunglasses. She was so mad! The guard said (nicely) that she's never seen a case for sunglasses like that before. The woman said, very snooty like, "You probably havent, they're Chanel." DH and I still laugh about her.

PLEASE don't go there. :sad2:

Many people who are in a wheel chair travel alone. You would be surprised by the many wonderful people, like myself :wave2: , who are more than willing to help a total stranger if needed.

I'm sorry if I offended the wheelchair folks. I was remarking about us able bodied people. My Mom is handicapped so I know how difficult things can be.Am I forgiven?

Boy, I agree! DS wore cargo shorts and so he never carried anything. I was so envious he didn't have to stand in the security lines. Only one problem for me-where do they sell cargo shorts for middle-aged ladies?

The other thing that would make the security lines a little easier to get thru is to send those in your party that don't have bags thru the "No Bags Entrance" and only the people with bags get into the bag check line.

I hate getting in line with my bag (unzipped) and having a group of 10 in front of me when only one of them actually has a bag.

But hey, I'd rather be in Disney waiting to have my bag checked then anywhere else.

Sunking

I remember at Sea World in 2003 they dipped this stick thing into our bags, rather than looking through. I assume that is for drugs, rather than for terrorist weapons!?

Im not sure that many people would try and take drugs into Disney, but there would be some, and Im sure that must be one of the reasons for bag checks?

As for security against terrorism, of course its not a 100% deterrent, but what short of full body searches is against extreme terrorists?

Lots of the security systems we put our trust in are fallible, but something is better than nothing; and if it stops people smuggling a joint, a pen knife or a sneaky bottle of something stronger than water into the park then they're keeping disney a little nicer at least.

This is so true! This is why dh has his 'disney shorts' otherwise referred to as his movie theater shorts. They can carry everything we need and then some :teeth:

O.K. -- I have now decided to wear cargo pants. However, I have my digital camera that I need to find a place for. I don't want to wear it around my neck. Any suggestions? :confused3

If I can get this little puzzle solved, I am home free to not have to wear a fanny pack. Whoo hooo! :Pinkbounc

Short of a camera bag, I don't really know where you could keep a camera with just cargo shorts - assuming you can't fit it into a pocket, and don't want it on your neck.

I REALLY thought about this too! But then again, I was out late ant it's 7:30 am! :)

Thanks for trying! I am still puzzled. And I really want to get by with just wearing cargo pants. Wow that would be great! :flower:

I"m tall and kiinda skinny, so I wear teenaged boy's cargo shorts that I get at Sears or JC Penney's. I put them with a girly top so I'm still looking cute.

My mom said Land's End had some good ones in their catalog for women, and my husband gets his at Costco, where they just measure by the waist.

Cargo shorts can be pretty unisex, so if you can't find a women's size that fits you, try a guy's size.

My digital camera fits in one of the pockets!

Seriously, it fits fine in my cargo shorts, and my husband, who wears the cargo shorts that end just above the knee, can actually fit four water bottles in the two pockets on either side! We drink them so fast that he usually is down to one on each side after a few hours, but I've actually stored complete changes of clothing for the girls in those things.

Mine usually have camera, wet wipes, keys, sometimes my lanyard if it gets too heavy, and some sunscreen wipes.

I like that I can distribute the weight evenly.

Regarding a poster who mentioned metal detectors....they don't have these at WDW? On our last 2 trips to Six Flags theme parks, they not only had metal detectors, but they wanded my husband as well. He's got metal in his knees and sets off metal detectors everywhere. The thing I found ironic was that they took him at his word and he ended up bringing in his Leatherman, which has a locking blade at least 3 inches long on it  . Granted, he's allowed to carry things like concealed weapons and such, but they still should have done a quick pat down. At one of the parks, they did pat him down and failed to find the Leatherman... :confused3 Being an officer who has to do multiple pat downs each night a work, he was amused and horrified by this. So they don't have metal detectors, huh?

As for the fanny pack issue, I truly have fallen in love :cloud9: with this little gem I picked up:

http://www.ebags.com/mountainsmith/tour_pack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=3146

It's been GREAT and gets :thewave: from our family. It can carry an ungodly amount of stuff, is made super tough (the zippers are amazing...and yes, I CAN get excited about zippers because nothing's worse than the darn things breaking halfway through your trip), and looks "sporty". It's also darn comfortable. I carried it around SF Marine World from around 9am until 8pm, stuff with:

*full size sunscreen
*lip balm
*handi-wipes
*3 wallets (mine, my stepson's, my stepdaughter's)
*Digital camera
*35mm camera
*my cell phone and hubbie's cell phone
*2 big sport bottles (the kind that SF sells that are refillable...32oz, I think) in the side pockets made for water bottles
*various medicine (aspirin, pain relievers, etc)
*snacks for the kids (baggies filled with goldfish, gummy bears, granola bars, etc.)
*2 disposable cameras for the kids (yes, I know I probably went overboard on the camera issue...ROFL)
*and other assorted stuff I can't think of right now.

We got absolutely SOAKED on the river ride (they have these wonderful machines located along the water ride where bystanders can insert .25 and bombard you with water cannons) and most of our stuff stayed dry. I was really expecting my back to hurt by the end of the day (I don't have the best back in the world), but it didn't. Plus, on most of the rides, I could twist it around to the front or side without having to leave it until the ride was over. Oh, and my hubby wasn't embarrassed at the thought of having to take over the "pack mule duties" :rotfl:

Hubbie wore cargo shorts....and of course, the pockets were empty most of the day...all the stuff was in my pack!!! He DID carry the park maps, coupons, etc. :rotfl2:

Awesome! Thanks! I think what I might do is when I go to shop for my cargos, I might just bring my camera case to make sure I find a pair that holds it. If I find the right shorts, I will be sooooo happy! :Pinkbounc

One question for you or anyone who knows: Which brand of shorts do not go all the way down to the knee, and that have an elastic-y waistband? I don't like to feel bound in.

Thanks again! :flower:

I have two pairs of long pants with elastic waists that I got from LLBean that have multiple and buttoning or zipping pockets. I am thinking of wearing those on our trip in December. I think LLBean has cargo shorts, too. Look in llbean.com

How about if you wear the camera around your neck during the security check and put the folded up camera bag or a fanny pack for it in one of the cargo pockets. Then once inside you can remove the bag and put the camera back in it
