Can anyone tell me what "preferred" entitles us? We are arriving at Pop on Saturday and this is the first time we are paying for preferred. Do we have a better chance of getting a requested location? What area do you prefer at Pop? I am thinking I would like to be very near the lobby - perhaps at the main pool area. What should we request? How apt are the CMs likely to fulfill our request since we are paying preferred?
I DO want to help you, but first I just want to point out that you shouldn't have paid extra money for something unless you knew what you were paying for.
Okay, at any WDW resort that offers "preferred location" rooms, it means a physical, geographical area of rooms that are nearest the public centers of activity/recreation in that resort. In every resort, these are VERY SPECIFIC ROOMS/BUILDINGS. "Preferred location" does NOT mean that you get to choose wherever you'd like your room to be and that CMs will give you first preference. By paying for "preferred location," you are
guaranteed to get a room in the specific "preferred location" group of rooms. If you have any preferences beyond that, you can have those preferences noted on your reservation, but those preferences will not be guaranteed. But like I said, if you PAY for "preferred location," you are guaranteed "preferred location."
Take this link to look at a map of Pop Century:

The 60s buildings are Pop's "preferred location" rooms because they are the rooms nearest to Everything Pop (the food court/gift shop), the Hippie Dippie Pool, the front desk, and the bus stops. People who pay for a "preferred location" room at Pop are paying to have a shorter walk, to have a room in a more convenient location within the resort.
