Plaza or Whispering Canyon Cafe

HELP! Which one? We have WCC booked now, but I'm second guessing myself. The reviews seem to be 50/50 on WCC, some liking it and some hating it! I kind of like having the entire evening in MK and eating dinner there since the parks are closing so early while we are there (January). Not sure what to do!!!!

I really really second guessed myself on WCC. We really enjoyed it, especially the kids. But... it's one of those places where if you are not into doing activities it could be really really annoying, especially if you don't have kids. They don't force you to participate, but you have to be in the mood no matter what. The service was excellent and the food was good, but I could see how some may not like it as it is primarily "meat and potatoes" type food. Not fancy or gourmet. Very expensive for the type of food that you are getting, but typical pricing for a tourist area restaurant.

We really hesitated doing this, too. However, once we went, we had a great time! It was my DS's birthday. He does NOT like attention so we told the hostess ahead of time and we also had them make a cake ahead of time. Instead of recognizing him publicly like they did all the other birthdays, they brought a cake to him at our table and told him Happy Birthday quietly. It made his day! We shared the cake with the family at the next table, too. They seemed to enjoy it as well!

We love WCC! The food was great & my server was wonderful. I enjoyed it so much that we're going back to WCC before MVMCP.

We ate at both Plaza and WCC on the same day back in 2008. The Plaza food was decent, but nothing special. That evening we went to WCC, not really knowing the full deal about the various activities, but loved every minute of it. We were a little disappointed when they removed the peel and eat shrimp from the skillet, but it was still a great visit. This year we took the boat from WL over to MK afterward to enjoy EMH so another bonus of WCC.

We've never been to the Plaza, but we have been to the WCC twice and loved it both times. We have had two great servers and totally embarrassed a friend of our that was with us! Another reason my DD likes WCC is because the kids menu includes the All You Can Eat Skillet which means she didn't have to eat the traditional kids menu!

To me, it really depends on what mood you're in. I like both. The plaza is small, sort of intimate... It seems a bit out of the way from the crowds at MK. Food is good, but tends to focus mostly on sandwiches. Good icecream and desserts too. We usually end up there once during our long trips, and have never needed an ADR to get in.

I've ony been to WCC once on our last trip (Nov. 2008), for lunch. I LOVED the food (got the skillet). I don't think the antics were as much during lunch. We had a very good waitress, that was fun, and picked on me a bit.

So, if you're a bit nervous about WCC, if it fits into your schedule, why not try it for lunch?

We didn't care for WCC at dinner but enjoyed our breakfast & lunch there. (Stayed at WL that trip). It is on our 'never return' for dinner list even reading some of the positive reviews here on the Dis.

Tried the Plaza for the first time last year and really enjoyed our meal (lunch but the menu is the same). It was a very pleasant surprise for us.

We just ate the Plaza last month and really enjoyed it - very good sandwiches, excellent service and fabulous desserts - we will definitely go back next year.

We've been to WCC before and it's ok (not bad but not great either - nothing special) - it's one of those places for us that we may or may not return to on future trips.

I ate at both restaurants in July. We actually stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and opted to try out the Whispering Canyon because everyone had told us to eat there. Been there, done that...not doing it again. It was okay...way overpriced. I prefer The Plaza...it's one of my favorite places to eat, and the fact that it's in the Magic Kingdom is a perk.

Between the two, I would choose WCC. However, I suppose it depends on what you would like to eat. Each restaurant offers different food.

We love both, but I voted for The Plaza. It is a "don't miss" for us on every trip. However, if you are on the Disney Dining Plan I would choose Whispering Canyons Cafe. The Plaza requires table service credits but the prices are in line with counter service locations. I'd go for WCC to get more bang for your buck (or in this case, credit).
