ok...i'm finally thinking about it! I would like to get a playstation for my DS5 for Christmas. Or should i get xbox? which has more games for the little ones?? any NEW systems coming out? I dont wanna buy one and then in a year its obsolete!

My DH bought an X-Box under the guise of getting it for my kids. The X-Box certainly has the best graphics of all the systems, I believe, however, the games for X-Box tend to be geared for older kids. If your child was 10 and older (and getting older), I'd say to go for the X-Box, but since he is younger he might get more enjoyment out of the Playstation games. My 9-year old DS prefers the Playstation games but he is ever so slowly maturing and gearing more toward X-Box now.

For me, the Xbox is for older people.

How about a Game Cube? Go to the gaming stores and look at the games and check out the game ratings. That's the best way to get a feel for what you could purchase.

I think that a Playstation would be better for a 5 year old. We have both an X-Box and a PS2 and it is much harder to find X-Box games geared towards younger children. If you get a PS2 you can use both Playstation and Playstation 2 games and there are tons of Playstation games that are geared for children of all ages.

I agree about the Xbox, it's really for older kids. A GameCube it's probably a better choice for your son's age.

Yea what they said. My 5 yr old loves PS2 and my 13 yr old loves the X-Box.

I was about to write the same thing as Christine except everywhere she says X-box, I would have said ps2 and vice versa. Really neither systems have games geared towards kids that young.

Take a look at the nintendo Game-cube. I here Santa Claus may be bringing one to our house this year to add to the playstation -2. Thier games are slightly more age appropriate. You can head to your local Target, Walmart or Kmart, and you can see the selection of games and see what would interest your family. Also this web site http://www.gamespot.com/ has a lot of info about games. Don't be alarmed by the home page which features more mature games. The site has info about any game that I have looked for.

you should go with game cube - much better for little kids.

besides...if you're looking to get PS2 or XBox I'd wait till they get upgraded.

We got our PS2 in May. It was a tough decision between PS2 and XBox. We chose PS2 (for 9,6 y.o.) because the hand controls look a lot smaller and simpler to use. The XBox ones seemed "chunkier" and too large for little hands.

Between the two, go with PS2, but Sony is coming out with a new one next year. I reall recomend getting a Gamecube however. The controllers are much easier for younger kids and there are a lot more games geared to younger kids. There are plenty of games for the older crowd too, so that should not be a concern. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me as I work in the video game section at TRU.

I recommend the Gamecube, too. We just went through this whole debate also and when we looked into it, the Gamecube did have more games for youngsters. It was also $50 less, plus it came with a free memory card:worship: .

we have an x-box and I'll ditto that it's really for older kids. We have a 10 y.o. (got it when he was 8 I think) and there is not a great selection of games for his age, imo.
