My son, soon to be 13, would like an adventure game for PS 2. He really enjoyed Tak and the JUJu...(something) so I've been looking for another one. We also have Kingdom of Hearts which he enjoyed playing.

I was thinking about either:
Indiana Jones, The Lord of the Rings or Prince of Persia

I am rather strict about the material - no machine guns plowing people down, language etc.

Has anyone played any of the games and did you like them? Were they too challenging for a fairly bright young teen? We have Bounty Hunter and neither of my boys like it.

My DH has PS2 and also plays adventure games. One that was a huge surprise that he loves was Sly Cooper, Thevious Racoonus (I don't think I spelled that right, but they aren't real words - right???) which came with our game package. He loved it! He also recommends Final Fantasy X, which I believe is in the greatest hits catagory making it only $20 new - you have to look for the red on the label. By the way - some of the Final Fantasy characters are the same as Kingdom Hearts - which would be fun too.

If you have a Game Stop in your area you might look there for resale versions of these, I'm sure they could be picked up for a song!

I was going to mention Sly Cooper as well. It's a pretty fun game.

We also love Star Wars Rouge Squadron, and the Spyro games (there are a few)

If I were to choose from those I would say LOTR return of the king or Prince of Persia. Prince of Persia has to be the Best game out on PS2 right now... I really enjoyed both games both are easy to get into. Niether are games that I personally would want to play over and over and over after I had finished them, but if he isn't a serious gamer they will take him a while to complete which is good because then you don't have to buy another game for quite a while.

Sounds like my kind of gamer. :D I love those games, too.

My favorites so far (and I'm playing Tak and the Power of JuJu right now)

Jaq and Daxter (not sure of the spelling on Jaq) -- this one was clean and very enjoyable. About the level of difficulty of Tak, a little harder in some places. Good storyline.

Ratchet and Clank was a lot of fun as well, though I only got about 3/4 of the way through it. Another clean one, though the main idea *is* involved with getting different weapons and shooting characters. It is cartoony and I have no trouble with the "violence" in it compared to Tak, just wanted to warn it was lots of cartoony guns. I don't recall shooting any *people* in R&C, just bad guy monsters, and it is clean as far as cartoony shooting is concerned. The gameplay is fantastic, too. About comparable to a futuristic / sci-fi version of Tak and the Power of JuJu

Most recently, I really enjoyed Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. Again, not too frustratingly difficult (though I'm not even half-way through it yet) while still having some good challenges, some humor in some areas, good clean fun. But the audio in Sphinx is seriously lacking. The only bad thing I can say about it, really.

There are sequels out for Jaq and Daxter and for Ratchet and Clank, but I haven't played the sequels. Yet. :D

Another good one is something about Ty the Tazmanian Devil or something. I think the name was Ty, anyway -- he's a cute orangy-yellow dog-type creature and had some good adventure.

I've heard that Racoon game was really good, haven't been able to find it to rent yet though and I typically rent games first with how expensive they are.

If you're willing to go back to PS1 games (which do play on the PS2, just need a PS1 memory card to save on), any of the 3 Spyro the Dragon games are *fantastic*, especially the third one. They're the closest to Tak and the power of JuJu that I've played in game style and humor. DO NOT get the Spyro for the PS2, though -- a different company took over the game when the PS2 came out, and I've heard nothing but complaints about the 4th game. But the PS1 Spyro games were top notch.

Have fun gaming! :D

When I asked at the local EB Games for an idea for DS's b'day last year, they recommended Dark Cloud 2 - since I said he'd really enjoyed Kingdom Hearts & Final Fantasy X. DS was 22, but DD also really enjoyed it & she was 12. Of course they had to try to get to the PS2 before me! :teeth:

My son,9,loves Ratchet and Clank and has played both the 1st and 2nd games. He always wants to go to his uncle's to play it:)
We have LOTR - all the series for XBox and he really likes them. I don't think PS2 would be much different.
