Playmobil??

I think I have decided to get DS7 something Playmobil for Christmas. He inherited his older brothers Imaginext Castle and Treehouse (from when DS11 was 4 *sniff, sniff*) and he enjoys them. He doesn't always use the "right" figures - sometimes his little Buzz storms the castle or the Khung Zhu's live in the treehouse - but they do get play. I was going to get him a set or two of his own Imaginext but....they don't look "classic" anymore except maybe the space station. He sort of liked the look of the Toy Story set but he wasn't exactly overwhelmed with enthusiasm when we looked at it. And he has a big Buzz and Woody plus a little Buzz, Toy Story 3 on DS and is getting Wii Toy Story Mania and the movies for Christmas ....I'm wondering if we are kind of at the overload limit on Toy Story stuff. He likes Batman but wasn't at all interested in that set.

I love the little Playmobil schoolhouse set and then you can get the cafeteria and gym to add on to it. He used to love to play with DD's Loving Family playhouse (which made my stepson and DH ) so I am thinking he might enjoy this sort of toy and it seems more along the lines of the timeless toys I like vs the trendy movie based stuff. I plan to show it to him and see what he thinks. The vet thing also looks cute.

Whose boys have these? What sets do they have and love? Also, storeage. I hate stuff just laying out on the floor - where do you store these? DS's room has an alcove and I may install shelves there. I also have 3 large shelves at the bottom of my wall length bookcase that are empty....I may let him have those for these playsets. We have a huge open area in front of the bookcase so if I put a comfy rug down it would make a great place to spread them out and play...

I'm just wondering what everyone has and how much play your kids get out of them. He is hard to buy for, I'd love to find him that "thing" that sparks a genuine interest.

my DS8 has the castle, the dragon fortress, batcave and the pirate ship form imaginext. We went to Walmart today and he has requested for Christmas the Joker imaginext and the battleship imaginext and a trio batcave.

He loves his imaginext sets - he plays in them with his zhu zhu pets, toy story characters, the people that came with each set, scooby doo people and whatever else he has.

He has them in his room on a shelf set but most of the time he sets them all up together and plays with them all the time.

He liked the space station and the fire station today also, but his favs were the joker and battleship.

My DS6 has a Playmobil Rock Castle(mom2mom sale $6), Skull Pirate Ship, Pirate Island($4 at thrift store) and the Sphynx from the Egypt set. He also has a ton of accessories we got in a huge bag at Value Village for around $15. Plus a bunch of the smaller Pirate and Knight sets we got at HomeGoods.

For Christmas he wants the Egyptian Pyramid.

His room is tiny, but we kept his train table in the room after he outgrew Thomas. At times it has had Hot Wheels cities and roads, but right now he has his Playmobil stuff set up on there. I change things around now and then and it's a whole new set of toys for him. He is sleeping right now but I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it. The train table also has drawers for storage which is great for spare parts and figures. Best $40 I ever spent!

I am the youngest of three boys in our family and we used to play for hours with Playmobil and Legos - those were the only two types that my poor dear mother could count on to give her a few hours of peace and quiet on snow days!

We had the spaceship - and a tree house - and a wild west set - and tons of others - and yes - the spacemen often often rode up to the tree house on horseback - LOL That's that great things about Playmobil - it's totally mix and match - but while it has theme - all the basic pieces look very similar.

Playmobil is timeless - I was playing with pieces from the late 70's from my older brothers when I was a kid in the mid 80's. They are definitely built to last - and worth the price!

There are so many wonderful sets and since they're interchangeable you can build on your initial purchase. I just got the family camper and the family van and boat set for my grandson. The family van can be turned into an RC vehicle. I think the school looks like lots of fun and it's on sale right now. As Playmobil is a good quality toy, your sets will be heirlooms one day.---Kathy

you can't go wrong with playmobil.We are a playmobil family. My DD had the dollhouse and the pony farm and all the rooms of furniture and the carriage etc, a store, the surgery and the dentist office and a lot more misc. sets. My Son had the castle, the barn, the crane, the Airport and plane, pirate island, a large ship with sails, and the large battery operated train, he also had some western things but when he was the right age the fort was not being sold. I'm sure I've missed some things. the only thing I think that got the least play was the crane. he played with the castle for hours and hours for a very long time. He had some of the imaginext but it just isn't the quality of the playmobil.

I am using the word had but we still HAVE all of it and I won't be getting rid of it. My son still messes around with some of his stuff in his room even tho he is older.

I'm glad your boys like(d) them. That makes me really want to introduce him to them. Seems like the zoo is quite popular. I may let him look at the sets and see which he likes best. Perhaps I am projecting with the school

Again, seems like kids are really liking the zoo. I should let him look at them first I suppose. The animal care clinic is really cute, too. I hope she enjoys it!

I think my son got the most play time out of the castle. It lasted the longest as far as, as he got older he still wanted to play with the castle and knights after he had outgrown the farm and the store. the neat thing about the castle is he could use his animals and the knights had horses, and they sell a house to go along with the castle which is mostly walls (not the girl fairy tale castle) around an open area that you can put the house and the animals.

He played with the knights and castle set from 4 until easily 10.
