Playdoh on a plane

I was wondering if anyone has taken playdoh on a plane? I'm not sure if it would be ok to take through security. My DS (2) will play with it for hours so I figured it would be the best way to keep him busy while we wait to board and even on the plane.

But my husband thinks security might mistake for plastic explosive? :confused3 I never really thought of it that way, nor did I know playdoh looks like plastic explosive.

I don't want to create any problems while travelling with a 2 yr old at 6:00 am. I have a couple of backup plans, but this is by far the easiest way to keep him busy.

TIA for any info.

Good idea..and good question, though I honestly have no idea on the answer.

We`ve taken playdoh on the plane and had no problems with it. But now they check all liquids and gels and remove them from your bags, so im not sure. you could try, whats the worst that would happen, they will take it from you

I haven't tried since the liquid thing. I would just get the small tubes of it and then you can each put one or two in your quart baggie of liquids you are allowed.

Great idea I think I will also bring some. Maybe some of the smaller cans. Just make sure that they are 3oz or less and put in a zip lock. hope it works out! :thumbsup2

No way. Too similar to c4 plastique, or whatever that explosive is called.
Better try something else....

I might hesitate to bring that. Since they've passed laws about bringing liquids, who knows what they would think your bringing. I would not bring it. Maybe bring some coloring books, or legos.

I brought play dough on the plane before liquids ban and let me tellyou they went through every single peice. I had brought a bucket of the real little ones for the kids to play with at the house. I felt so bad for all the people waiting to get their luggage through.

Not only did they check that case but they went through 7 out of 11 we took on. We own a home and I buy things up here and fly them down because it is free shipping. 3 cases per person and there are 5 of us.

playdough on the plane? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Either my kids are the worlds only messy kids, or this is just a bad idea regardless of homeland security issues. Oh how I hate that stuff. Is it fair to the "airplane cleaners" or the next person to sit in that chair? we must be doing something wrong. :rotfl:

Nope, you aren't the only one with messy kids. We only let our DD's play wiht playdough outside. No matter how little they have, half of it ends up on the ground. I wouldn't let my kids take it on on a plane either.

I am not sure if it would be allowed through security these days and traveling as much as we do I don't bring anything that could be questioned at all.

Even so, I personally I would not let my kids play with playdough on an airplane. Even if you could get it all cleaned up it leaves a greasy residue. Imagine a business traveler in a suit getting that seat after someone has used playdough. The mess and the smell would prevent me from bringing it.

How about some colorforms, color wonder, a couple books on cassette, my dd once played with a roll of scotch tape for an entire flight!

When I saw this thread title, all I could picture was Samuel L. Jackson saying, "We've got some (!!!) Play Dough on this (!!!) plane!!!!"

We have taken play doh on a plane before the new security ban on liquids and gels. It was great and DS played with it on the pull down tray and didn't make a mess at all. I had bought the play doh pack that included 2 small cans of play doh and 2 tools. He loved it. But, with the way things are now, not sure if they would allow it. What also works well is the color wonder by Crayola. We brought that along for DS and he loves it. And it really is no mess at all!! They even have Disney Cars coloring book along with Nemo, Blues Clues, and more. I also had stickers and a small notebook for my DS to put them in. I couldn't believe how long that kept him busy!!LOL However the best thing we did was fly Jetblue. The tv was a great distraction and he actually fell asleep while watching it!

My DD would have been way too messy for Play-Doh on the plane too. It would get everywhere. I do allow her to play with it inside but she has to be on her "Spat Mat" that was under her high chair when she was a baby.

No way.

First it does look a bit risky .

Secondly, it stinks. Please remember there is no ventailation once you are in the air. I was on a flight once and this lady whipped out her nail polish. They moved through the cabin looking for it and she tried to hide it but did not put it away. She pulled it back out and luckily other people were complaining. The attendant told her she to put it away immediately.

The smell was so strong it gave me a headache. I think playdoh would do the same.

Maybe pack it so your child can play with it in the room while you get ready in the morning or for dinner of something.

The consistency of the stuff is almost exactly the same as C4 plastique. I very much doubt that it would get through security these days. (Personally, I consider that a good thing. It smells.)

I'd go buy the little tubs of it, (the ones that you get for stocking stuffers or for goody bags) and put a couple in a ziplock just like all your other gels and liguids. All they can do is say no and make you dump them.

Coming from a sister of a flight attendant leave the playdough at home. It can't be cleaned up quickly if it is accidently gets squished into the seat or the floor. The smell may not bother you but the people infront of you might care.

She loves color wonder markers. SHe has a fridge full of pictures given to her from her younger passengers.

Here's a neat idea for you in lieu of playdough. (I teach 2's and got this from a book I use for planning):

Cut pieces of yarn in various lengths and colors. Let your child stick them to a sheet of sandpaper. You can store them in a large Ziploc bag. Simple, cheap and easy (and not messy or odorous!)

I agree. My son never had it to play with because I find the smell absolutely gagging. If I had to sit on a plane and smell that for a couple hours I'd be vomiting.
