Has anyone done the "Beach break" excursion on Cozumel...(Playa Sol)(Western Cruise)? If so, how was it??? Was the pool nice? I prefer the pool over the ocean anyday. My son and his gf are interested in the floating iceberg you climb and slide down in the ocean. The buffet? The cost of waverunners? Any information from anyone would be great. I emailed the site twice and they never responded.

Thank you in advance!!!

Hi  We did the beach break in October 2003. We rode a somewhat airconditioned bus to the beach. Walked through a shopping area with A LOT of pushy people before entering the beach. The pool area was small, but the pool was nice. There is a swim up bar.

Disney Cruise guests are treated a lot better than the rest! We had a special roped off area with interesting chairs! Our floats were included in the package.

My dd's were 7 & 9 at the time we went. The distance you have to swim out to the floating ice berg is rather long! My dh said it was pretty hard to try and climb up. But, he did have both girls with him while trying. I didn't go out that far. I didn't feel comfortable. I finally got a float and made it have way before one of my dd's pushed me off so she could rest from the swim back. They also have canoes or something like it! That was fun. The water is full of crushed seashells. Didn't really bother the feet, just felt different! The trampoline was okay.

The buffet was good. Definately bring $$ for tips. We forgot and had to bum some $$ from fellow cruisers! They want tips in the bathrooms~

We spent more time in the pool area than at the beach. When we were ready to go back we walked through the pushy salespeople and were placed on a bus only to have to wait until it filled up. I think we sat there 30 - 40 minutes. The a/c was not on at that time. We couldn't get off the bus because we no longer had our ticket.

We really did enjoy ourselves. I don't think we will be doing it again. Just because my dd's don't want to get off the ship in Cozumel. Too many fun things they missed in the lab.

Hope that helps.

Wow Hope....thanks for the excellent report on the excursion. You were very informative and I appreciate it bunches. I think we will still give it a try...I would so much prefer to go to the dolphin swim but my son isn't interested and I dont know what to do with him and his gf.....they are both 17.

Again, thanks :)

Tracy, you might also want to try to do a beach by yourself, there are some great reviews about Paradise beach in Cozumel, no entrance fee, and they only charge $5 per person to use all of the equipment. From what I have read, very clean bathroom, and great food. A cab will cost you $12 to go there.

Hi!
We just returned from the 12/4 western cruise...and did the beach break on Wednesday. My DS6 and I agreed that this excursion was the highlight of the trip!! We loved the warm water (much, much warmer than Castaway Cay), had a terrific time on the water trampoline and using the rafts that were included, and the pool...my kids did not want to leave!!! We really had fun. My husband and I would have liked to do the swim up bar, but the "free" drinks were from a bar a little ways from the pool. We found the food to be really, really, bad (covered with flies, stale hotdog rolls, etc...) but we had a really fantastic time anyways! This really is a great place to have a beach day. We didn't let the pushy vendors get us down, after all, they ALL are pushy in Cozumel. I agree that you need to bring plenty of $1 for tipping as everyone seems to have their hand out. About the long bus wait...we hopped on the bus at 3:25 knowing it was leaving at 3:30 and it left right on time. What I didn't like about the excursion is that there is a pretty long walk from the ship to the bus, much longer than I would have thought it would be and my poor husband had quite a bit of beach stuff to lug up and down escalators and through a mall. All in all...I would absolutely recommend this excursion!!! Have fun!

Thanks RainbowSteph....the more positive I hear, the more excited I am. Sounds like a great time....:)

From what I've seen it's always MUCH less expensive to do a beach trip on your own rather than through DCL. We went to Playa San Fransisco (right next to Playa Del Sol). Taxi was only about $10 each way, our beach was free access. We probably spent another $10 for two chairs and an umbrella. They have a pool - it looked nice - we stayed on the beach and in the ocean. They had food and beverage services there. They had boat/jet ski rentals there. They don't (or didn't) have the big floatie toys (water trampoline/ice burg) out in their swimming area.

So for less than $50 for the three of us we had a great day at the beach - and it was on our time schedule too!

We didn't go to the beach but we did rent a car - a jeep - for around $50 and drive around the island (the drive without stopping takes about 2 - 2.5 hrs. without stopping). We did stop at a couple of Mayan's sites (I think that's what they are called?!?) and at the beaches on the way to take pictures. It was a very good easy ride, we travel by the coast the entire time. The guy gave us a map, which looked pretty primitive but didn't get us lost !! It's a nice alternative if you are into exploring things on your own.
