I am interested in this also, I had thought it was nuts for them to close them at all. Kids plus outdoors seems like the next safest thing to being home alone.
I'm hoping these all open within the next few weeks. It's time, and if it gets too much later, it will be too hot for kids to want to use them...
No idea why they closed these anyway, b/c the 1st thing my area opened last May was the parks, playgrounds, and outdoor nature sites...ie - the things that kept folks in the heat, humidity, and sun...
We are here now and all of the kids play areas are closed. We did notice they are taking that time to paint and refresh the kids area in Seuss Landing over in Islands of Adventure.

Not sure why they are closed either given all that is known about virus transmission now (ie not on contact surfaces for the most part). However anecdotally, here in SE PA we had some of the strictest precautions in place that are only now really starting to ease (my kids literally just want back to school 2 days a week just yesterday)....but ALL our playgrounds in my township and at the school are still closed and all equipment is removed or roped off. Thankfully my kids are past that age, but I think it is kind of silly for the kids not to have access to the playgrounds yet. But then again, our school made us sanitize the water polo balls every 15 minutes, even though the balls and players were literally being dunked in chlorine the entire time (I am totally for most COVID restrictions and happily oblige, but some are just down right silly, lol).
The CDC finally announced this week that the risk of contracting the virus from surfaces is incredibly low. Moreover, in a hot place like Florida, any virus that lands on sunny playground equipment is going to be cooked off fast.
That said, I think the risk is less from touching the surfaces and more the close interactions when kids play. Kids suck at keeping their distance from others, and they're not always great about keeping their masks on, either. Being outside means droplets are dispersed pretty quickly, so I wouldn't say playgrounds are a particularly high-risk environment, but due to the nature of kids' play, they're not exactly low-risk either.
I'm heading down with a 5-year-old, and wish the play areas were going to be open. I think a compromise might be to open them but limit capacity to cut down on the likelihood of kids trading respiratory droplets with each other.
I heard they opened one in the Jurassic Park area. Any confirmation on that? And how about the Dinosaur Discovery building? They showed part of it open to the lockers for Velocicoaster, but is any other part of it open?

Camp Jurassic is showing open in the Universal App, and it wasn’t doing that last week when we were there and it was closed, so I assume it really is open. The Dinosaur Discovery building isn’t showing up as an activity on the app, so I assume it’s still closed.
We were at Camp Jurassic last Friday and Saturday and it was still closed, BUT they said it was supposed to open at some point in April, they just weren't sure when. It was showing open on the app, even though in real life it was not open However, if it isn't already open now it certainly should be by June. Part of the issue is that they were replacing all of the netting in Camp Jurrasic, so they were working on getting everything fixed up. It's a wonderful play area!
