Plastic Surgery

Just curious what people's opinions/views are on it. Do you think it's good/bad? Are you ok with certain types of plastic surgery but not another? Would YOU ever have elective surgery?

Well, I think it is a personal choice. Bruce Jenner looks CRAZY weird, as does Joan Rivers and Lisa Rinna, others look good. I say its all about what makes YOU feel good.
And yes I had elective surgery, choosing a Double Mastectomy reconstruction after Cancer diagnosis. Though it was not something I think I ever would have considered before cancer, glad the option was there!

I think plastic surgery can be and is a wonderful thing but like anything else, it can get abused. I have had a breast reduction and it improved the quality of my life greatly That being said, I think it is very sad to see all these young girls getting breast implants I won't even touch on the horror that is Heidi whatsherface, Joan Rivers, kenny Rogers, Mickey Rourke or the dozens of other 'celebrities' that have destroyed their faces.

I'm not a fan of the big-lipped, frozen, cat-eyed plastic look people get, or the big fake round breasts. A little work to make someone feel better, more power to them.

Personally, I wouldn't get cosmetic surgery to make myself look younger or different, but I might get something like a breast reduction (and thus tightening the girls a bit ), or if I lose a lot of weight and my stomach is all skin, I might get that fixed -- not so much that I'd look good in a bikini, but just so I didn't look BAD.

I think some people get obsessed with cosmetic surgery and do too much or they go to someone that is not very good and end up with bad results.

If I had the money for cosmetic surgery I don't think I would ever have anything done on my face. I wouldn't mind having lipo and a tummy tuck.

I'm okay for corrective/reconstruction procedures...but not that for "aging" issues.


If it looks "obvious" you had it--outside of a before and after picture--or like you are in the Witness Protection Program (aka Heidi Montag!) then it probably wasn't a good idea. Just sayin'.

I think that plastic surgery as it's been mentioned here, is fine. I don't consider breast reduction, or certainly any kind of reconstructive surgery in the same ballpark as Joan Rivers or Heidi Montag. There is nothing wrong with aging gracefully. I would not have elective surgery because, let's face it, operations hurt. I've had more than a few necessary surgeries, and they are not that much fun. Again, this does not mean reconstructive surgeries, which I would have.

Usually when I see someone who has had plastic surgery I think they looked better the way God had made them. However, I would do a tummy tuck if someone wanted to pay for it!!!

I see nothing wrong with people doing procedures if it makes them feel better about themselves. I'm in my mid-50's and would love to have an eye lift.

I plan to get some when I am older. Jowls run our family and there is NO way I'm going to have those.

Plus, I wouldn't mind an uplift in the chest area in a few years. My knees are getting bruised.

I would not do a facelift. They just look SO fake and you can tell right away that someone has had them.

Then again, I live in the land of the facelift and maybe they just do them to extreme here.

I guess the reason I ask is because I had gone to a class reunion a few months back and was talking to a gal I graduated with. We were never "close" but ran in the same group of people. Anyway, I have had breast augmentation and when she saw me she casually mentioned "I don't remember your b**bs being that nice in high school". I said "oh they weren't". I have hated my b**bs since I hit puberty, to the point of not even wanting to be nekked in front of my hubby at times.

ANYWAY, she said to me "Oh I could never do something like that. I could never give my daughter the impression that if you don't like something God gives you, just go get plastic surgery to change it".

It kind of caught me off guard at first but then I replied "hmmm...your daughter has braces, so other than the actual SURGERY itself isn't the point of the braces the same?" She said "well...that's different. EVERYONE can see your smile or make fun of you if you have nasty teeth". So I replied "So what you're saying is if everyone ELSE can physically see or make fun of something like bad teeth it's ok to fix it, but if your daughter has a part of her body that SHE doesn't like then she should "live with what God gave her". I ended our conversation with a smile and "is that an any BETTER message for your daughter? To be worried about what OTHERS say or think about her and not her own body image?" and just left it at that. She said "I guess I never even thought of it that way..." It was a good conversation that got us both thinking but I just wondered if anyone else felt this way.

I've considered an eye-lift and I'm only 41 My whole family has no eyelids, lol. It saves me money on eye shadow but as I age they are drooping more. I know that in some instances insurance will pay if it is impeding your vision so I am thinking of going to a plastic surgeon and see what he says.

I haven't done it but I see nothing wrong with it when it's done within a normal range like a nip here, a tuck there... whatever, if it makes you feel a little better so what.

BUT when people get all kooky with it like they do in Hollyweird so that the old people look like their own Rich-Old-Broad ethnicity deserving of their own spot on the census I gotta say NO, No, No. These women do not look pretty and destroy whatever beauty they once had. The don't even look human, they look like caricatures and the only reason they keep doing it is because everyone in their social circles look the same way so they don't know how bad it really looks. Carla Bruni has been a recent victim. Ever notice how Mary Tyler Moore and Joan Rivers have the same face? Such a shame, what ever happened to aging with grace and dignity? Older can be exquisitely beautiful.

I had this done in December. My lids were so heavy! it took me 2 years to really decide to do it. My family has these dark, Italian eyes with very heavy lids. My Aunt who is 80 had it done a few years back too. Its amazing how much better i can see. My brother is having it done in October.

My Mom had eyelift surgery when she was in her mid-80's, a few years after cataract surgery. Her eyelids had gotten so stretched from the surgery. At first, her insurance denied the procedure, but her appeal letter to them was so straight-forward! (I just came across it again - she told them that she's not a "vain woman" she just wants her eyes to stay open while she reads!)

I have no problem in little things done to improve something that really bothers a person, but sometimes the problem with that is that people keep going....

Plastic surgery was some thing I had never considered until my DS (9) asked why I had long ****s compared to the ladies on the TV !!

Spare 10k and I'd be in like a shot.....

I'm not a big fan of it but in certain situations it's fine with me.

A tummy tuck or a breast lift for a mom or someone who lost a ton of weight and has a saggy belly. Or for example, someone with something that embarrasses them like maybe a very big nose or large breast that hurt their back.

That's about it.

if it's tastefully done, i don't mind it. but if a toothpick is walking around with a DD chest, or if a guy can't even blink anymore because he's had too many facelifts, i think it's a bit much.

altho i think the Heidi Montang thing was kind of crazy. she looked great before, and to have 10 surgeries in one day....i'm surprised plastic surgeons don't make their patients go to a therapist beforehand to make sure they're having the procedures done for the right reasons.

Well, I'm going to have my abdomen rebuilt to repair an extensive hernia with lots of scar damage. It'll be like a tummy tuck when it's over.

I'm already looking at those Lifestyle Lift commercials and thinking I'm gonna consider it in 15 years. I'm only 44 right now, and don't have a lot of wrinkles or sagging, but in the future.... (I'm so glad I was always too bored to lay out and tan when I was younger.)
