plastic or paper WDW tickets?

When we got them a couple of years ago, they were paper.

iirc they are tyvek type ( like a priority mail envelope - seems like paper but can't be torn ). you may want to check on mousesavers.com that site may have further details on exactly and if you signed up for their newsletter you get additional discount for undercover tourist ( pm me if you need info )

:goodvibes

We always get our tickets from undercover tourist. They are paper tickets, but after you check in and get your room key, you take them over to the concierge and they will "add" your paper tickets to your room key. You can also have a credit card assigned to the card, so you don't have to carry as many things around in the park. If you so desire. :-)

I don't get it. Why would I want to put my tickets on my room key?

Disney room keys are the most unreliable I have ever used. You have to keep the key in a "sterile" environment away from all other credit cards, cell phones, etc... My AP which is on the tyvek just gets put in the wallet with all the other stuff and keeps right on working. If my Disney room key so much as comes CLOSE to something it quits working. I would rather not trust my ticket to that 'flucky' technology!

Huh - that's interesting. In our past four trips, we have never once had our room keys not work in any way, shape or form. And we do use them as our room keys, our park tickets, and our form of payment. They have been stored in pockets, purses, backpacks, and God knows what else! Next to cell phones, credit cards, food, water and probably other things we'd rather not think about! :-)

I'm going to file this away for future reference. I'll be waiting for that first time we have a problem and I'll think, "Ah! Foiled! I knew it would happen sooner or later!" :-)

Until then I'll keep my fingers crossed for our continued good luck with the hard room cards. Our fear with the paper ones is that they'll end up in those pockets, purses and backpacks in crumpled up form and be rendered useless. Darned if we do and darned if we don't, right?

As someone else said, paper tickets aren't really paper. They are very durable. I can understand, however, why someone would want to have their tickets put on their key card if they are only using admission for that trip - it is easier to deal with everything on one card. If it's non-expiring admission that will be used again, I do think it's easier to have it as the original admission media simply because I have so many other room keys around (they seem to multiply, or maybe I have been too many times and save too much junk!!) that I'm always worried I'll mix up the wrong cards.
