Plastic Bag?

CarolA, please don't read this response - I'm concerned about your blood pressure....

Agnes, at IAD earlier this week the young german couple behind me transferred their toiletries into a semi clear small shopping bag with handle from one of the airport shops while waiting in line; they passed through without any issues at all

YMMV

Consistency is definitely lacking

We are flying out of Washington/Dulles this Friday. We were going to pack per person a one-quart/Ziploc bag for our 3 oz. or less toiletries, plus other items, as usual would be sealed in ziploc bags(Mineral makeup, shower to shower, etc). So, someone who has flown since the new TSA rules went into effect, please reply...
From what I have been reading here, it sounds like some TSA agents are NOT accepting Ziploc-style qt bags, but are ONLY accepting the Quart bags with a zip-tab/zipper-type closure. Is this true?
From what I have read here, it sounds like *if* I have multiple ziploc bags(since I don't want my never-banned shower to shower or mineral foundation to possibly leak all over my clothes), I might be told to throw away everything except what can fit in *one* quart-size bag. Is this true?

Thanks,
agnes!

From what I've gathered, you might be told anything. I've heard reports from people forced to throw out things in too small bags, too big bags, no bags, liquids not in original packages, ziplock rather than ziptop bags, etc., etc.
I'm betting, though, that people having these issues are in the minority, and most of us will have to deal with nothing more than long lines.

Personally, I'd think the liklihood of having a problem with allowed items in an extra ziplock is low. You don't even have to take your extra ziplock out of your carry-on. More than likely, it won't even be noticed.

From what I've gathered, the best bet is to be very precise with your one ziplock of liquids and don't travel with anything you couldn't stand to lose.

Agnes,
Why not check those items? The zipper type plastic is true. The limit is one quart size zip (zipper type)lock bag in your carry on luggage. This is per the TSA web site.
There is no limit to the amount of zip lock bags (and they don't even have to have the zippers on them) that can go in checked luggage.

I am still opting to have everything checked, minimal carryons. I liked the idea of : if you don't need it, check it. Obviously, there are things that need to be carried on, like cameras, electronic equipment, laptops and the like.
But, face it, we really don't need to carry a lot of stuff on a plane.
Hope you got some rest last night. :)

I did, thank you! It's now working overnight tonight, and straight to the airport! (With all toiletries in my checked luggage.)

Thanks for all the replies :goodvibes .
About checked vs. carryon...We are only going for the Columbus Day weekend & will have (maybe) four smallish carryon bags between the three of us.
What's interesting to me about Ziploc/Zip-tab bags is that BOTH styles are pictured on the TSA website :confused3 , so I can see where there might be some confusion...

OK so the solution at Midway is if you want to "break the rules" just arrive late... :rotfl2: I guess folks with "evil intentions" arrive EARLY

(By the way, my coworked just informed me this doesn't work in Tampa!)

There are few rules that make controls good.
1. Consistency
2. Intelligence.

(Both appear to be missing here)
That is so true ;)

They did throw away her liquid make-up which wasn't in a bag at all!!

I gave my DH a Ziploc bag (NOT the zipper type) for his liquid toiletries, and he apparenty got through security just fine at O'Hare yesterday.

I think I can get by with the 3 oz. travel sizes of some toiletries, so am tempted to just bring my one rolling carry-on bag onboard when I fly to Orlando next week. Just wondering how to contain my non-liquid items. Can those things go in my blue vinyl toiletry bag? And what about things like vitamins? I usually count how many I need and put them in a sandwich bag, and I take more than one type of vitamin. Are they going to confiscate those?

I think the bans were/are for liquids & gels only, I hope the TSA doesn't care if we bring on vitamins, etc. I'll find out for sure when we fly tomorrow, will post on this thread when we get back next week.
