it seems that one of the selling features that best buy and other retailers use in addition to the product of course, is "free set up". is there anything complicated about setting it up? i have an hdtv converter box. i will buy the hdmi cord and without seeing the tv it seems like it requires a coaxial cable from the wall to the cable box and an hdmi from the box to the tv. i will connect the dvd/video recorder with the component wires since i never recorded a thing coming through the cable anyway.(we have cable dvr). i do plan to burn my vhs videos on dvd which is why we got it. is there anything more complicated than that? dh is in tampa so i will wait until he gets home to uncrate it.

Would that include hanging it on the wall with the bracket (seperate, pricey purchase)? Ours is a 42 inch Panasonic, heavy as stink. I am all of 5'1", DH is 6'2", it was a real chore getting ours mounted over the fireplace. If that's included for free jump on it!

It can be complicated, depending on where your source is coming from, how far you have to run wires and cables, etc. Also as another poster said, hanging the things on the wall is no easy task.

Just make sure you read ALL the instructions before starting, and then read them again. Oh, and then read them again. Seriously.

It's certainly not rocket science, but it can be involved. My company has probably 50 installers in New England to this type of stuff.

The Best Buy guys delivered ours yesterday and it took them less than 5 minutes to set it up on the stand. The installers that will mount it above the fireplace don't have an opening until the 20th. The cable guy is delivering the hd box today.

No mounting involved. just the stand and that is it. wires are already in place.

You should be able to do that yourself, that's probably why they offer "free set-up". If you choose to have it mounted on a wall, that costs extra.

Dawn, which model did you get? We are currently looking for a 50" plasma.

After a process of paralysis by analysis, reviews on CNET, looking at plasmas in the stores, evaluating the size of the frame (didn't want a lot of length with speakers on the side) we chose the Pioneer 50/70 HD or something like that. It has letters in front of the numbers too. Its the same one that best buy has a 71 rather than the 70. I got a great rate from an authorized pioneer dealer from washington state. i didn't order on line but called u an negotiated a better price than originally quoted. i saved $1000.

Just be careful about hanging them on the wall. My mom saw a news report about several children who have been killed after wall-mounted plasmas fell on them.

What did you buy that will allow you to burn your VHS tapes to DVD? I need one of those in the worst way as I have grocery bags filled with tape that needs to be converted soon! We just bought an LCD HDTV and my husband hooked it up and disconnected it just to make sure Christmas Eve would not be a disaster. No wall mount for us at this time either. I think you can do it yourself in a snap.

If they're not wall mounting it and the wires are in place, the free setup should not be too complicated.
We also have a Pioneer 50 inch, don't know the model number. I wall mounted ours and connected it to a home theater system and hid all the wires in the walls. That actually took me several days and several adult beverages to complete.
