planters warts

just took my DD13 in to dr's and had them frozen. it is painful to walk but not unbearable. in a few days, they will be dead and her heel will be on it's way to being pain free!

there was a thread about this on the budget board and different remedies ppl are trying, you might look it up for more info.

I tried just about every over the counter stuff and nothing worked. I finally went to the Dr's and had them frozen. It took 2 visits but I was thrilled to get rid of those things. I actually think walking on the wart was more painful than the freezing.

Ducktape the area and file after a couple of weeks of having it covered then reapply the tape that sometimes works if cought early. I did have to have one laser not as bad as the pain it caused.

Dr told us this about the warts....

Warts are a virus that are contagious but some ppl are wart ppl and some are not. He has been handling and treating warts for many years and never gotten one.

Your body does not recognize this virus in the beginning so it is allowed to grow and form a callus, this callus is what causes the pain when walking.

eventually your body figures out this virus needs attention and will take care of them, getting rid of them on it's own. altho waiting for this process when it's on the bottom of your foot and painful to walk, can just be too long.

Since it is a virus and contagious, wear flips in public gym/shower areas!

My son had a HUGE cluster of them last fall. He got them after going away to football camp.
They were extremely painful, and we went to several foot doctors who were reluctant to remove (his were too deep to be frozen off) them off because they usually clear up on their own. I did keep them covered with a light wrap, and put the OTC medicine on them under the wrap. It took a good 3 months, but they are gone.
It was tough for him because they were most painful during football season, but I'm glad we didn't get them surgically removed because he would have been sidelined out of football for the season. We had planned to do the procedure after the season was over, but they cleared up on their own before the season ended.

I have the ultimate cure! My 8 year old had them, used creams, bandaids, gel, freezing, duct tape, and the Dr. tried to burn them off. He had them on four toes, and two thumbs. The Dr. finally gave up.

Try a health food store, ask for Oregeno Oil. Soak the affected area for a few minutes put a drop of Oregano oil and let it soak in. Do this twice a day and they will be gone, pain free in a couple of weeks.

I do work for a podiatrist part time and they either freeze them or apply topical acid to burn them off. Some patients require 2-3 bouts of this before they are totally gone. The key is to seek treatment as soon as you know you have them, if you wait, you may not be able to get rid of them because they do become deeply embedded in the foot over time.

My DD8 had one on the bottom of the foot...we started using the acid stuff, but after a couple of weeks (it was around Christmas), I must admit I forgot about it :guilty: .

Well, about two months later, I noticed she had one on her pinky finger. I then checked her foot, and they had spread - her original single wart was now 10, all clustered on the pad below her pinky toe. I flipped out, and then decided we'd try the over-the-counter home freezing kit (Dr. Scholl's).

We treated each wart once - held the applicator against it for the maximum time recommended by the instructions (varies, depending on location). We only did three each day, but after four days, we had treated them all. No tears, and minimal "ouching" (she's a bit of a wuss, too:rotfl: ). She didn't have too much trouble walking, although this may have been due to the location?

Anyway, by two weeks later, all of them had fallen out, and she's been wart-free for four months now. Definitely preferred this method to applying chemicals every day for months on end (I'm not that organized :rolleyes1 )

Good luck...hopefully you have no problem getting rid of them.

Use the over the counter wart remover on the wart. Cover with duct tape. (I know sounds crazy.) Change this every day. The skin will get all moist and yucky and die. You will peal off the duct tape, and the dead skin will come off with the tape. Sounds like it will hurt, but it does not. If the wart is deep this will take months, but you will ultimately "dig out" the wart. One time I pealed up a wart and was able to see the wart on the duct tape. Other times it just slowly comes off in layers.

I had surgery to remove a number of warts. You are under twilight sleep. They dig very deep to make sure they get the entire wart out. They say it will heal in weeks. Truth is it takes months to heal. Walking while they heal is extremely painful. Working out is impossible.

Duct tape is the way to go.

Now that is pretty cool. I haven't heard of that method before, but hey-whatever works! :thumbsup2

I had them twice. I had no idea what they were, and I admit, I forgot about them  . Finally, the pain began, and I went to the doc. The first time, they tried topical medications. When that didn't work, they cut them out. Well, I guess the dr. didn't cut deep enough, because all 3 came back. I went to another dr., and he got rid of them by cutting them out. I wasn't under twilight, like the op. They numbed my entire leg from mid calf down to my toes. I didn't feel anything, but it hurt like crazy after. I wore a surgical boot for a few days, and that was that. What did I learn? Don't let them go! Take care of them as soon as possible!

I had one on the side/bottom of my big toe. I actually noticed it when I was pregnant with my 2nd dd. I had it burned off 4-5 times over several years and it kept returning. The dr. told it was an internal corn. Well my mom said to get a 2nd opinion. I ended up having to get it surgically removed. And according to pathology it was a planter's wart.

I think your experience is more the norm. I have worked for 3 different podiatrists over the years and all of them had just given a local when removing plantars warts too. Twilight would probably be nice, but if the insurance company won't pay for it, they sure won't use it. :sad2:
