Planted up the front flower bed today.

I planted up one of the newer flower beds this afternoon. It has yellow daisys at the back. In the center are the zinnias I had started myself - they have been planted out for a while. Then towards the front is trailing red verbena. I am hoping to get the effect of a yellow backdrop that highlights the front colors. A mid tier of bright hot colors. And the front a low growing mat of red that intertwines into the mid tier and also spills over the rock wall edge. Only time will tell if it was a good mix. I have not even given thought to the side and back gardens yet. I will have to noodle on it for a few days - and then make what purchases I need - next weekend. I also put the Joseph's Coat roses into their permanent home today.

Got some plants for my containers today as well. I ran out of time and energy to plant them up - but I will get at that tomorrow. Along with the remainder of the vegetable garden AND my blueberry plants that arrived this week.

Soooo much to do... so little time!

Sounds like a very lovely design. Looking forward to seeing the pic as the season progresses.

I sometimes get these awesome ideas, as the season progresses I realize it's not the effect I am looking for. I think the color scheme sounds great. Looking at the size of the zinnia's you started, your garden looks like mine wishes it looked.

Have not been in the yard much, hoping to get out today. This is a late start for me. I have been doing some rooms over and some refinishing of a few antiques. I normally do not like to refinish antiques but they were pieces that someone painted and as usual I paid almost nothing for them. The den is finally almost done just need to add some crown molding.

The spare bedroom is half done. I've been painting Disney scenes on the walls. Also need to install the closet organizational unite and order the new mattress. I got a great buy on an antique pinapple post bed only to find out it's a custom order mattress, figures! Oh well seeing I only paid $25.00 for the bed, I guess I can spring double the price for the mattress.

I'm thinking today and tomorrow are suppose to be great days, I may say forget the inside and hold off till Tuesday when rain is predicted.

Good idea Mamu! I would love to see your antiques you are redoing. I adore them... but have not indulged much in doing that sort of thing. Maybe when I retire and have just a BIT more time to call my own.

Kim - the zinnias are mixed hot tropical colors - salmon, yellow, pink, red and some cream. I will let you know how those roses do. The soil in that back bed is awful (stuff we hauled in last year) so I dug a very large hole for them and replaced the soil with good potting soil - kind of creating a container within the crud soil. I did that with the other roses in that bed as well. They are doing great this year - so it seems to work. meanwhile I will keep working on improving the soil by adding compost annually.

Well, I got most everything done with the exception of the back section of the main vegetable garden. I literally just ran out of time and energy. After three solid hours of planting, cultivating, and tilling... I was done. I did get the blueberries planted. Our soil is naturally alkaline, and of course blueberries love acidic soil... so I did the same thing with them I did with the roses... creating a pot of more acidic highly humousy soil within the native soil. Since they will eventually be rather large bushes - had to make this a big soil "pot". I will need to add garden sulphur and good compost annually to keep them healthy. Wish me luck in this little experiment. I normally don't like to grow things that are at odds with our native environment... but I love blueberries and they are a great addition to my low carb eating (along with strawberries and raspberries) so I decided to try and push this envelope a bit.

Okay. I am pooped! I need to go nap in the lazyboy for a while and watch some Sunday tv.

You must be planting High Bush Blueberries, right? We are fortunate to have lots of blueberries growing around the cottage area. Bowls of wild blueberries for breakfast, blueberry pancakes, pies....yummmy!!

It sounds along the lines of the saying of: "put a 5 dollar plant in a million dollar hole"!! I, too, am anxious to see the results of all your hard work.
