I'm so aggravated with them right now.

DD2 had the first one.
It got treated and is now gone
(if you don't know the treatment - the Podiatrist scrapes it, puts medication on it, and then you can't get it wet for 2 weeks. Then you HOPE it's all taken care of)

Because they are VERY contagious.......
DD1 now has one, and we have to go get that treated.
Because we didn't know about it, DD2 was exposed again due to them sharing the same shower.
(Now that we know, I've been bleaching the shower and make DD1 never be barefoot, but I think it's way to late)
Such a pain in the rear!!!

Have you had Plantar Warts in your house?
If so, how long did it take for you and others to stop sharing them?

They are the worst!

One of my kids had some, but thankfully they didn't spread to the others.

We applied the over-the-counter liquid wart medicine several times a day and they finally went away.

I had a cluster of them my junior year in high school. Fortunately, no one else caught them, even with a shared shower. But I do know that for about 6 months others would sprout up in different places on my feet. We bleached the heck out of the shower after I had them removed (mine were so bad I actually had to have outpatient surgery), and thankfully they haven't returned.

Are you talking about plantar warts or molluscum contagiousum? We always treat plantar warts at home with commercial wart remover; my DD5 just had one. When my kids had molluscum we had to get one of them treated at the dermatologist. I don't think plantar warts are all that contagious; none of my other kids have gotten them and they all share the same bathroom.

I had them removed by the Dr, bleached the shower floor after every use, no barefoot anywhere until we were sure they were gone. I would say 3 months? Our Dr froze them off.

I have had them at various times in my life. I am the only one in my house that has ever gotten them. Various methods have been used to remove them. The last time, they were cut out, and boy was that unpleasant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks goodness they haven't come back since that time.

The Podiatrist said they were Plantar Warts and he warned me about how contagious they are.
He even told me to take Antibacterial Wipes and wipe down all of my DD's shoes.
Since DD2 had them in the winter, all her shoes were worn with socks, so I don't think it was to much of an issue. DD1 has already worn flip flops (unknowing about the warts) so I told her that she needs to wipe down all shoes that she wore no socks with.

These things are such a pain!!!!

Our dermatologist got us this awesome prescript medicine that we put on everyday and the wart just fell off after a few months. No pain, no mess, no problem...never bleached a shower or heard of not getting it wet??!! Nobody ever shared them?!

I had some removed when I was a kid. I think it was 4 total. The weirdo podiatrist put them in a pill bottle and asked if I wanted to keep them! :crazy2: I do remember they were painful. I don't remember anyone else catching them or realizing that they even could. I haven't had any since.

The one thing to try if you dont want to do any of those messy fluids or freezing...is duct tape or apple cider vinegar. The idea is to suffocate or irritate the wart enough that the body starts fighting the wart. It works. I put duct tape on each night for a few weeks. I stopped/forgot putting it on after that. About a month later they were all gone. Same with a finger. I hit it for a couple weeks. Didnt think it was doing anything so I stopped. Then a few weeks later notice it was shrinking all by itself and soon gone.

I had them when I was a kid, we tried everything over the counter to get rid of them and none of it would ever work. Eventually we were told to use aloe vera (from the actual plant, not in a bottle) and tea tree oil... they disappeared pretty quickly after I started treating them with that.

When DS had one, we used over-the-counter wart stuff. The secret was putting one of those little paper reinforcer stickers (like you use to keep torn notebook paper in a binder) around the wart before putting the medicine on it - so it only dried out the wart, and not all the skin around it.

My son hand them. We did see a podiatrist. He went every week or two, I don't recall. & changed the applications daily (I thought!).
Applications were trimmed to the size of the wart. Which became interesting when they got smaller.

Took a while. Maybe a month or two. And they were gone.

No one else in the House got them. Because of the number of warts and applications, we kept a sock on that foot for the duration. Medical tape was applied so that the applications didn't move and then the sock.

The apple cider vinegar trick works. My DH had a very persistent one and he tried it. The only problem is ...and we had heard about this so he was prepared...was that the apple cider vinegar causes intense PAIN. The wart left but DH said the pain was almost unbearable!

gotta get the seed out ! hurts like a big one but shouldn't come back

I had one in high school and nobody ever told me to file it down as it grew out, so it just kept growing, and growing, and then it got caught on my jeans as I was putting them on and the whole thing, root and all, came out. The hole was SO DEEP it just kept bleeding and bleeding for weeks afterwards.

Hope nobody was eating anything, reading that story. ;)

My kids have both had them, too, but I know how to handle them. I've dabbled with the duct-tape trick, clear nail polish trick, apple-cider vinegar trick, etc... but what worked best was the over-the-counter freezes you can do. I had to do it a few times over a period of weeks, but eventually they just flake right off. Nothing as nightmarish as my experience!!

Those roots could be brutal. They looked like innocent little parsnips, but holy heck, pulling one out was like unleashing a deluge of blood.
