Plantar Fasciitis

Here are a couple of my go-to tips when I have bouts of PF. 1. Use a golf ball to roll-out the bottoms of my feet. I do this a couple of times a day. 2. If I happen to be fighting this when we go to WDW, I will tape my feet with Rock Tape (the type of tape you see professional athletes taped up with during competitions). It's a stretchy-fabric tape and it helps me a lot when we are at WDW. There are other brands out there, but I like the "extra sticky" version of the Rock Tape, as it holds up the best for me. 3. Soak my feet at the end of the day and/or ice them.

If I'm fighting with this during a WDW trip we will plan for it to not be as busy of a trip. We know we will be back, so we just find other things to do that don't require standing in lines so much.
Seconding the golf ball - has helped me in the past. I also reco filling small paper cups with water and freezing - then massage the bottom of your foot.

Very sad to say that I cancelled our reservation for September. We had not been to Disney World since our Honeymoon in December of 2021. It will probably be a couple years before we have a chance to get back there. In 2025, we have plans for Tennessee and down to Savannah, GA.

Sorry to hear you canceled. I was going to suggest your wife try a knee scooter if she won't use an ECV, but I guess it's a moot point now. Hope she finds some relief soon.

My husband has PF flareups and we just went in June, and he had one right before we left and was hoppling pretty bad. went to foot specialist and they recommended sneakers and stretching exercises. He bought Hoka sneakers and was a game changer for him he was able to walk all day. Also, he did his stretching exercises plus the ice bottle technique. He kept that up the days we were there. We go in September again and we plan on repeat of this and hopefully has no flare ups.

Just saw you canceled. Sorry to hear. Look into a night splint called Strassburg sock. Never go barefoot in the house, and check out the Hoka Bondi to help let it settle down. I work in Run Specialty and see it a lot with runners and walkers. The Bondi is probably the number 1 shoe doctors recommended for this. Best of luck to her

Unfortunately, I think you are right. We are on the verge of cancelling the trip. Under no circumstances would she use an ECV. She just doesn't think it will be better by September. She is considering surgery but not certain yet.
How is she now? I missed your post about cancelling but if she was considering surgery, not sure I would have gone either. The pain must have been pretty bad to be looking into that.

I know it's after the fact, but I've suffered through Disney last 2 trips with flare ups it's brutal, a friend told me to try a insert from profoot for your heel these things have been amazing zero issues since getting them, wife got them on Amazon definitely worth a shot

I have had several flareups and I had one before our last trip. When it gets bad, I generally wear gym shoes all day. It isn’t the best look when going to work, but it helps. I also switched the shoes I wear. For dress shoes, I mainly wear Vionics. I was able to walk over 10 miles a day in Disney in flip flops because of the arches in my Vionic flip flops. The arches in Saucony and Hoka gym shoes work well for me. When I have flareups, I also stretch, roll, ice, and sleep in a boot or special socks.

I came in here to search on how people handle plantar fasciitis at the parks. I've tried all of the things! Nothing helped me, except cortisone and that only lasts so long. I finally got surgery and I'm sorry to say, it's worse and not better. Pain in other places of the foot. So I do not recommend surgery. We have a trip in February, our 25th anniversary so just the two of us. Hubby says we will go easy and take breaks, but I am feeling worried. I Christmas shopped this weekend and stood long in the kitchen making cookies and my foot is killing me! I wear my supportive shoes. I exercise it and stretch, etc. It's just pain. I didn't want to do an ECV, but I might have to. I don't think it will be good getting on and off the bus with it. I have a call in with my doctor to see about another coritsone shot.

The last time I went to WDW I suffered with PF and I was significantly larger than I am now. Standby lines were the worst! I ended up doing something that my personal trainer suggested for me. I wear easy slip-on-slip-off shoes and I carry a small dowel (think 6” long broom stick handle) with me. When I’m standing in line I remove one shoe and putting as much pressure as I can tolerate, I roll my foot over the dowel from the base of my toes to my heel. Repeat that 3 times and then change feet. I found that it helped immensely. I continued that routine at home and still do it weekly to keep my feet happy and haven’t had a PF flare up in almost 2 years now.

Profoot has helped me immensely as well … still get occasional pain usually from walking around the house on hardwood floors minus the profoot, put on slippers with the insert and pain goes away … been virtually pain free since our trip in Nov … heading back for March and Nov trips this year

Not necessarily what you are asking for, but this is what I have to offer.

I suffered with PF for many years. When I got up in the morning I was in so much pain for the first minute or so walking. I limped, hobbled, etc. I had issues throughout the day. Doctors wanted to give me drugs. I said "nope" and did some research and fixed it myself. I have not had issues in more than 4 years. This is what I did.

Invested in 2 pairs of New Balance. The insoles they offer are expensive, but very helpful (if needed). One to wear out of the house and one to wear around the house. When up and doing things around the home, I wear my indoor shoes.

For 3 - 4 weeks: I got a very sturdy cardboard roll. I think it was an empty foodsaver bag tube. Anyhow, I rolled each foot on it, ball to heel, for 3 minutes each. That was advised by a PT. The idea is to break up any tight tissue, scar tissue, etc.

For 3-4 weeks: I did stretches I found on YT where I stretched my calf, Achilles and heel (plantar fascia).

Also, ice can help to reduce the swelling. 3x a day for 10 minutes. Reducing the inflammation will help stop the cycle of hurting each day.

I still wear the shoes. Literally, made all the difference. No way I could have walked around Disney, much less a mall, if I did not do this. PF can really be helped or even eradicated with the right shoes...whichever shoe is right for her.

DH has this and a calcification/bone growth. The only thing that has offered lasting relief is PRP therapy. They take blood and isolate the white blood cells and re-inject. He did eventually need to have surgery for other reasons. He used to wear Nikes and then Ascis and tried Brooks. The HoKas with custom insoles have been the best and he can walk so much more now (and slowly started Bowflex max Trainer with regular PT and ortho appointments).

DD5 is toe walking and we will be getting her custom insoles and serial casting. She already has 3 bone growths/calluses on the top of her arch. She can put her feet down but bending them backwards is almost 0.

I have tried all those except Hokas! I wear Brooks and they do a wonderful job for me. However, I will give Hokas a try as a lot of people with PF swear by them. So glad he got relief from them.

I wear the Hoka carbonx and can easily walk 25k steps at WDW without pain (muscle spasms, calves would stiffen etc). I don’t have PF but flat feet. I do have back issues (DDD, retrolesthesis and osteoarthritis). I also drink liquid I. V. At WDW (recommended by ultra marathon runner; sugar free doesn’t work) and my calves don’t cramp anymore (pedialyte never worked). Dehydration can add to the issues and prevent muscles from relaxing.

Try a few different Hokas to see which ones feel better before purchasing.

Also, you can get some flip flops that can fit orthotics to wear at home. He has the Dunham Newport slide and the footbed is removable. I’m sure they make something similar for women.

I wear Oofos flip flops at home but the Ortho told him to only wear his custom orthotics at home to stabilize his foot.

The drew Cruz sandal seems similar to the Dunham
