Is there a plant that you would just *LOVE* to grow but can't??? Is it because of your climate or your perpensity to kill it off every time you try???

I love foxglove. Every year I try some. Every year I kill some.

The same goes for lupines and delphinium.

They're SUPPOSED to like my climate. They're SUPPOSED to thrive in it.

So, I'm guessing they just DON'T LIKE ME!!!!

Any confessions you'd care to make???

Inquiring plant murderers would like to know...... :smooth:

For the life of me, I cannot grow coreopsis, zinnias, or roses. My coreopsis and zinnias always get powdery mildew no matter where I plant them, and roses, they just don't do much. I bought a Disneyland rose 2 years ago and it barely made it thru the summer. Didn't survive the winter. :(

Bougainvilla ~ too cold

I keep abusing myself with roses. Maybe some day they will look as beautiful as Buchart Gardens.

I really like the look of a saucer sized hibiscus. They had something at the garden center this past year that they called moon flower. It looked very much like a giant hibiscus. It was supposed to be hardy and it came in several colors. If they have it again this year I think I will try one. I also like dahlias. The really large, full ones. I have never tried because of the timing of putting them in and digging them up at just the right time. I'm just not that organized.

Chessie, here moonflowers are an annual vine, and they are indeed devine! :) I've grown them and their frangrance is absolutely sublime. If you grow one, stick your nose right in the bloom, you won't be sorry! :)

I, am death to all roses. :( They mesmerize me with their beauty, entrance me with their fragrance, then mock me with their short life span....sigh. :charac2:

I'd also love to grow a money tree! :smooth:

Lavendar-I have a small bush but it's not growing fast.
Japanese Maple-it is expensive and it doesn't always survive. My grandma used to have one that was very old but it eventually died.
Tulips.

Our house came with a lilac tree and it's just not thriving. It's not dying, it's lingering. I love lilacs but maybe Ohio is not the place.

Bobbi :D

I have tried for years to get an azelea bush going. They tell me my soil is either too acid or not enough. We'll have to see if it's better at the new place. We have to be sure to get Norhtern varieties too.

Blue spruce and Red maple trees are my problem. I've killed both. Gave up and planted magnolia trees!

Ooooh I planted Fox Gloves in my Nana's garden and I had no idea what they were! They are growing great, and they're multiplying and I had no idea what I was doing! I stuck them in the ground and just watered them and voila, there they flourished! I'm so happy! Good luck if you plant them this year....I bought them at Wal Mart last year and they seemed so pretty I had to have them! :flower:

Lilacs should grow in Ohio no problem, Bobbi. What's wrong with yours? Is it just not blooming? Not at the moment, of course. ;) Is it in full sun?

Candace Marie, do you have a digital camera? :)

I dont have luck with hydrageas. I also managed to kill a healthy looking coreposis. I'm diffently not my grandmother who could grow anything.

I would be willing to bet that the soil wasn't acidic enough. Azalea LOVE acidic soil.
