Plans for Castaway Cay?

Does anyone know of any rumors for Castaway Cay? We were on the cruise a couple summers ago and we thought the best part was this island. I would prefer to stay at that island everyday instead of going to other ports. I gotta believe that Disney has plans for this place ie a theme park or water park etc. So has anyone heard anything? :listen:

I doubt that they would do anything like that. It would take away from the specialness of the island and they would have to do something about the serious bug problem after dusk.

I guess I could see them building a small water park with fountains and some small slides to be used by guests while docked at CC (which I would love to see... :) ) but I don't see any big development that would leave people there overnight.

I haven't heard any rumors. I must say that I do hope they do more with it. On our first cruise, I was very disappointed with CC. I just expected there to be more to see and do there. There are only 2 small shops, crowded beaches - Even the biking was very limited. Sure, it's "serene", but there isn't much of a view, and the beach and water "beauty" is not different than anywhere else in the Caribbean, just much smaller.

I would hope they would add something more. We missed this stop on our last cruise due to high winds, and I was completely happy to stay on the ship.

(Sorry to be a downer. I seem to be one of the few here that doesn't get excited about Castaway Cay. Having been to Labadee on RCCL before, CC was a HUGE disappointment in comparison.)

Its a real pain to get infrastructure to the island. There is limited power generation, limited sewage treatment, limited water processing. Building on islands isn't cost effective. I doubt they'd do much - and people are so thrilled with it the way it is, they don't need much.

They did get a stingray experience.

Different strokes I guess. We were on Labadee in 1985 when it was very much like Castaway Cay is now, and in 1988 after the let the stupid vendors in....they really ruined it for us. The also added a sunken plane for the scuba divers to look at. Just what I wanted to see, a sunken Cessna. You can shop in all the other ports, Castaway Cay was nice because it is almost a deserted tropical island stop.

What can you buy at CC ? Only 2 shops!!!! Wow, I hope they are BIG! I was hopin gto buy beach towels and T shirts mainly, but im up for most things, shopping!! :rotfl2:

As for plans, construction is now underway to move the first tram stop much closer to where the ship docks.

You can buy towels, shirts, hats, key chains, bags, magnets, pins, pens, stuffed animals, beach toys...among many other items. They have the items outside the ships in pails & on racks too.

That is a good move. Always wondered why the tram didn't come up closer.. :confused3

When I started researching my first DCL cruise a few months ago, I read about Castaway Cay and thought it might be nice to just go there for a week and even called Disney to find out how much it costs :rotfl: I was new to this whole thing and I didnt know better. It seemed perfect, a Disney run resort in the Caribbean :thumbsup2

As "crisi" posted, they would need to build extensive facilities to house guests overnight. All of which could be easily wiped out by a hurricane on such a small flat island.

Its nice to dream though :cloud9:

I still believe they have plans. Water, electricity etc. is all possbile with Disney.

Lets come back to this post in 5 years.

Float my Boat why dont you stay on the ship? :sunny:
Your smartass tone was not lost on me. Re-read my post. I went there once. Stayed on the ship the next time. Any questions? :confused3

Labadee is mountainous, CC is flat. I think for me, that is the biggest difference. Also, the crowded thing. But hey, to each his own.

Here is me floating at Labadee.

And just because it's cute, here is my son at our "camp" at CC. We had a blast, I just didn't like it as much as Labadee, nor as much as being on the ship. So shoot me.
