Plans filed for new family raft ride at Typhoon Lagoon

Do you still go to the WDW water parks?

I voted 'once in awhile', but not because of crowds or lack of seating. We just aren't as 'into it' as we are other things at Disney, so they kind of get side tracked.

Actually, still have water park tickets left on our old tickets which we use as desired.

I expect it will open in the Spring 2017, so they could start construction now, but then do things in the guest accessible areas when the park closes for winter maintenance anyway.

As with crush and gusher...most of the "heavy" construction occurs when the park is shutdown...it's just so much easier without guest traffic...

...and that "no water" thing too

I hear you loud and clear...

The problem is they didn't really build much from 2000-2010

..and that comes at a price. There always should be "some" things being built - without exception - so they don't scramble and have a quagmire like you see now.

I disagree. They built a lot of new resorts. Maybe that's why we're just feeling the impact is because it's moved from the resorts to the parks. I just think the whole area is a complete cluster - you-know-what. I can honestly say I have gone less frequently because of all the construction in the parks. I'm glad MK and Epcot are now up and running and soon AK is coming online. Disney Springs is MUCH better, but the road construction around that area still makes it a mess.

They built three resorts from 2000-2010. Pop century, AoA, and AKL. I don't consider that a lot of construction. Building resorts don't really affect the guest much in terms of inconvenience. I would also disagree that Epcot is up and running. How many empty buildings do they have?

New resorts?

Pop century was started in 2001...then mothballed...then completed in phased over 8 years.

Animal kingdom lodge was started in 99 and completed in 2001.

DVC are not "new resorts"...they are add ons or repurposes that pay for themselves.

...other than that...I'm with you 100% ;)

To your point...they only built 2. And you are correct that resort construction affects almost no one...

The Polynesian work over the last couple of years was as invasive as it gets and it was over very quickly by Disney standards.

Epcot is no where close to "up and running"
It's never been in worse shape...even with elsa's Bibbidi bobbity boat cruise.

I wish that was an option, as I've only been there once and I've only never been back only because of money and how we've planned our trips

I agree that resorts don't affect the guest experience very much as you can always go stay at another resort. However, the entire time the GF was under construction, we didn't stay there. The same with Contemporary, and the same with the Polynesian. So, the construction was affecting me in my resort choices. I won't stay at resorts under construction. There was also a lot of refurbishments such as the ASMo food court that closed for a few months. So, I have to agree to disagree that I feel there was a lot of construction going on in that time period, but I agree it did not affect park experience and only affected a small amount of guests in comparison to the parks.

Epcot may have empty buildings, but I find the construction walls far more unsettling than I do empty buildings.

I guess we don't agree that DVC add ons are new resorts. Either way, they affected the main resort and affected my resort choices AND I had to look at those stupid construction walls and/or the plethora of construction equipment.

That last part made me snort with laughter. Thank you!

We are talking between 2000-2010. GF DVC add on started after 2010 if I'm not mistaken. Polynesian was also after 2010.

As for resort refurbishments that's normal you can't avoid that. Sure it's inconvenient to stay there at that time but it's necessary for resorts to keep things fresh every 5-10 years. The same goes for resort room refurbishments those happen every 5-10 years because they have to.

As for Epcot they didn't have a lot of walls. You had one section of walls in Norway which reall didn't take away from the guest experience at all. I'd much rather look at a couple walls and look at promising things coming in the future than an empty building with nothing coming anytime soon.

It is just my feeling that I have seen enough construction for a while and I just would like to see the resort at peace for a bit. No walls, no empty buildings, no construction equipment, no road construction, just perfection and peace. I left resort rehab out of that because I think that's unreasonable to expect absolutely nothing to be going on or improved, but just done with transition and have it peaceful. Kinda like it was in the late 90's and early 2000's. Sure, I want new experiences. Sure, I want new lands and I know we have to build to get it, but there are just SO many projects going on at once that it just leaves nowhere for the eye to escape.

I guess it's affected my psyche more than it has affected my actual experiences. I've thought about it a lot since we started discussing it and I still feel that the resort has been in a constant state of flux since 2009ish. Again, maybe if you googled all the projects from then until now, it wasn't that many, but it's my perception of it and I'm just over it.

But, I get it. They have to compete. They have to stop people from going on the other side of the "fence". They need people to want to spend their dollars at Disney and not any of the other choices in the area.

Is it just me or does it feel like Disney is now the one lagging behind when they used to be the trend setters? It's like ever since Universal built Harry Potter world Disney has been trying to constantly catch up?

With the current size of the resort this will never happen. Something will always be either under construction or under refurbishment.

I am aware it is unrealistic expectation; more of a wish.

The resort was "at peace" in the late 90's and 2000 because they had built a poop ton's worth from 88-97...

2 parks, 2 water parks, 3 brand new entertainment sections...and 10 new from scratch hotel developments.

They "bought" that peace by building proactively. It was almost too big (a frequent indictment of Eisner after ak opened) and the crowds were allowed to grow into it. They were proactive.

Since? The opposite...hand ringing and fretting over how to exploit and draw funds for misguided international adventures by west coast bob.

The reality is - mad scientist years aside - that Michael Eisner was the defender of the US/east coast market of Disney fans.

Iger...not. One big unavoidable expenditure in California and a mad scramble 5 years too late - created by himself - currently in Orlando.

And Orlando lacks cohesion...they have all this property and IP and seem to be having a hard time doing anything with it.

What do you do? Why not repurpose tower of terror in a move that a 6 year old thought up?
Yeah..good...start there.

I kinda agree. But for me, it isn't the number of projects, its that they last forever. All these things end up overlapping, so I feel like there are walls everywhere. It would be nice if they could start and finish a project in far less time, so we don't feel the construction walls everywhere all the time. Or perhaps work on one park at a time, so that you don't construction everywhere you go.

I for one am very excited about this news! The water parks are a lot of fun and my favorite rides are the raft ones so this is good news! While it's kinda annoying for all the construction walls it's also cool to see all the work being done plus just more reasons for more trips :P. Glad Disney is stepping up their game! ::MinnieMo:tink:
