Plans changed - any possibility of a 1BR NY week?

I have a 2BR booked a Kidani for the week between Christmas and New Year's. We were going with another family who has just backed out. That means I now have a 2BR booked for a family of 4, which is not ideal. I checked online and there are no 1BR available anywhere except for 1 or 2 nights of our trip. Is it worth it to waitlist a 1BR at this point? Any chance it would come through for that week? Otherwise, I may have the kids invite friends or bring Grandpa along or both.

I am also going through this for early December. I've been haunting the member website and have been able to pick up all but one night so far in a 1bdr std at Jambo. I've picked them up 1 night at a time. It is doable - you just have to check the availabilty often. If something comes up for the time frame you need, you have to book immediately a minute later it will be gone.

Also in November another member's plans might take an unexpected turn and maybe they'll trade you their reservation for a points transfer. That's my plan if it takes me until then to get that last night.

IMO, the chances are poor, at best. The problem is going to be NYE - that night is the most popular night of the year (for both parks and DVC) so I'm quite sure that there are already many on the waitlist for it. Given that, I highly doubt that your stay would come available via waitlist. Sorry.

I'd keep the 2 bedroom and make lemonade. Bring Grandpa & let the kids invite friends. That week is crowded, but can be so much fun, especially if you can spend it with family and friends!

Thanks for the advice! I'm thinking we'll just add to our group rather than worry about trying to get nights on the waitlist at this point.
