How far in advance should one plan one's own funeral if one is in fairly decent health and young of age?
I've considered planning my own funeral a lot of late, what with the world going to hell in a handbasket and all. I'm not depressed, not really.I just want to know what everyone thinks.Am I being morbid?
So far the way it looks is this:

Opening theme:"Broken Hallelujah"--Rufus Wainwright
Eulogy(or eulogies..whatever)
Ending theme:"Angel"--Sarah McLachlan

Oh Ursula...I don't know what to say but, I love that "Angel" song by Sarah Mc lachlan. :D

I will make no requests. I want my family to do what they see fit and are able at the time.

about this lately. I want to be creamated, and my ashes spread over WDW. Thats it, end of discussion.:o

See I want to be cremated too,but DH says if I die before him I'm getting the normal treatment and they are going to stick me in the ground.I don't want to be wormfooooooooooood!:(

This is always what I have said about my funeral.

If you didn't send me flowers while I was alive, don't send them to me when I'm dead!

If you didn't come and see me when I was alive, I will make a request to have somebody at the door of the funeral home to tell you to go home I don't want you to come see me when I'm dead!

I want no crying. I am in a much better place than you are all.
(I hope)

I want all Disney music played at my funeral. Because that is what I enjoyed.

Be happy for God sakes, think of the buffett after the funeral

JTB, please, give your family an idea of what you would like. Even to the point of, okay, if you are really stretched for money, I'd like this. If you can splurge a little, I'd like that.

My mom was able to tell me what she wanted to wear, what coffin she'd like, etc. It really, really helped. We weren't thinking straight and this just helped us so much.

Ursula, I don't think it's morbid at all. I think you are doing your family a favor.

I'm donating everything that can be donated and the rest cremated and spread over some nice tropical ocean.

No I don't find it morbid at all. I will agree that most folks do think it is morbid.
I would like to record my own cd's/mp3s along with commentary inbetween. Part of it I would like to include into my own eulogy ie have my own voice. Can you do that?

I know, I know...wierd.

I want to donate what's still usable too,but DH says if he's still around,it won't get donated because he doesn't want them slicing me up like a side of beef.:(
I just want a nice, quiet, simple funeral...nothing major, something easy for my family to deal with.Is that so wrong?

Funny we have talked about this too off and on. I want any organs donated and have filled out the paper work and it is on my license plus I tell everyone I am a donnor
only thing I ask is not to have my legs showing I want a blanket over me! LOL! I still remember going to this old lady who died and she was a very militant type and she was lying there in this blue dress, stockings and black shoes.(they used card board to make the dress puff out! It just looked to odd to me! So I say PJ's nice pillow and blanket! but lately cremation sounds better and better. But I don't think I would want that done at this age just because it would be so hard on the kids to understand

I am with you, Ursula, and I want the theme music from Wonderful World of Disney played too.

LOL*I bet that would be the nicest funeral anyone ever went to,if you played that.I have seriously considered having a BIG party with my cold, dead body laying out on a card table as my funeral.I don't want everybody to cry and be sad.I want them to be HAPPY.Wierd,I know.

March 25,1999--Oct. 22,2002--Three and a half years wasn't near long enough. You will be missed,my precious angel without wings

Ursala, I hope that date is just a typo.

Typo,aahmom?No...that is in reference to my CAT,Precious, who was put to sleep last year on Oct.22,2002.She was born on/around March 25,1999(to the best we can figure...we found her under a bush when she was 4 weeks old).

D'oh!I keep forgetting what year this is!

I want to donate anything that can be used and the rest cremated and some of my ashes at Disney World and the rest around my home.

Ursula, it is YOUR funeral, not your husbands. Put what you want done in your will and he will have to do it. I don't want to be put in the ground either. I think cremation is much nicer.

My sister has told me that her casket is to remained closed and a smiling picture of her to be on it. Whatever! I'll do that for her.

Groosch...I'd wert ter donate anything usable....but If I dew my job 'right' that won't be 'alot' ! :).....In a perfect world....I'd just like ter be dumped in a hole....especially in a pine grove...but...I know that's not "PC" anymore....sew....I guess whoever's around will jurst have to figure it out!

Not necessarily. Unless a loved one KNOWS your wishes & desires, a Will does not help at this particular time. Most wills are safely kept away and, when the time comes, no one knows where to find them. Even if they found them, it would take a pretty speedy court order to make those particular wishes known & enforced vs. the family member doing all the organizing. jmo

Your family MUST KNOW and Respect Your Wishes long before you pass away.

Think about this ~ even if you pre-plan your wake/funeral/burial, SOMEONE MUST KNOW in order for those plans to happen! It isn't about a Will, it's about a person's desires & plans and, someone here has to see them through.

Most Wills aren't found until AFTER the services. But, the contents of the Will CAN BE shared with family that will respect and honor the dearly departed's wishes. JMO
