Planning The Super Secret Renewal of Vows - 18th February 2012

I guess I'll start with the good news stuff...then I'll have a little vent....and more happy stuff at the end... :lmao:

Rings

Amanda's is bought and paid for and we've just had confirmation that it's being shipped tomorrow! It's going to my parents-in-law because we bought it from the US and they wanted some ridiculous amount to ship it to the UK. Seriously, it's just a ring in a ring box, what does it weigh, an ounce? Is it really valid to charge £40 or $60 to ship it? Another worry I have is that it'll be stopped at customs and they'll tax the life out of me and we'll have to go through the whole performance of claiming it back because we're US tax payers blah blah blah... By sending it to my parents-in-law, they can bring it down to Orlando if they come, if not, they can give it to Amanda's friend who is attending and she can bring it down.

Tonight we are potentially ordering my ring. It'll be the same drill I guess but for me, having them bought, paid for and shipped will be a relief!

Yeah..it's still an "if they come" because after 5 emails they've still not responded with anything more than "give me the dates". So this is where the venting comes in... VENT WARNING...if you want to skip the Jay being a grumpy old man bits...this is where you scroll down :rotfl2:

So, Amanda's parents are not exactly in the financially struggling category. To give you an bit of the back story, Amanda was told for many years before we got together that she should "have a small wedding and take the cash option" because they had a "big chunk of change set aside" (apparently the figure of $25,000 was given) and she could use it for a down payment on a house.

Our first wedding cost £60 ($90) which was the registry office/court house fee because as you know we had a basic "legal" wedding with a plan to have a bigger one later. We paid for that and I am paying for this renewal myself after saving hard ever since! They have never paid a single penny towards anything we've done and frankly, I like it that way because there is always a bigger price to pay with my MIL, in that she thinks she can tell us what to do with our kids by using the jacket she bought me in 2002 as leverage! I never asked for the jacket, didn't want the jacket, did everything I could not to get the jacket, but apparently, if she buys you anything, that gives her rights in telling us how to parent our kids!

That said, we have never seen the $25k wedding fund nor do we want it, and we've been stuck in rented housing since because we can't afford a downpayment! Amanda is an only child, they never so much as called her on our wedding day, all we got was an email 5 days later saying we put $1000 in your account as a wedding gift. Great, we would have traded that for a $2 phone call to say best wishes!

They both retired from the US military base after 30+ years service in 1998. They have full pensions, health care etc. and both received a HUGE lump sum retirement package. Within a year, both were back working full time, MIL as a teachers aide at the school, FIL as a janitor at the school. I don't know what their financial situation is and it is none of my busiess, but I do know they have no debt, no car payment, no mortgage, no health care costs, and by their own words "enough money in the bank to buy a much bigger house cash but we don't want to move".

So, in my opinion, they can drop $1200 to come to this renewal and be there for Amanda probably without even noticing. They also have Disney Visa cards that they got when we went to the world in 2008, both with $15k limits which are interest free for 6 or 12 months on Disney bookings. In other words, no excuses!

So why is it, that you can't say yes or no? What's the hold up here? :confused3: Seriously, I don't know what it is with her family but it's really grating on both of us! If you don't want to be there, don't be, Amanda will have a perfect day whether you're there or not! I'll see to that! So just decide already so we can set the numbers for the meal!

VENT OVER...

Dress

We've found a dress alterations place that can take care of Amanda's dress! :cool1: I hated the fact that she was so bogged down with losing weight so it would fit. The only place it didn't fit was across the back and the last thing I wanted to do was put her under that pressure! So now the pressure is off, she is still determined to lose weight but it's now out of choice not out of "necessity". With her spinal injuries, exercise is not exactly easy for her right now, so I'm relieved that the "problem" is over!

BEO

So our BEO for the ceremony and all the extras is here! It's pretty much exactly what I'd worked out for myself.

BEO.jpg

Payment is due 18th January 2012, but I'm just going to pay it now and get it out of the way!

The other BEO will be for the Fantasmic! reception buffet and dessert party. I'm figuring that'll come out at about $1300.

$250 venue fee
$80 per person x 10
$50 Soft Drinks
Taxes, Service Charge etc.

I'm considering getting an outside photographer in for that but I've tried 4 times to email Randy Chapman and he's never responded. I don't know if I have the right details for him so if anyone has a current email address for him they'd like to share, I'd be very grateful :worship:

So, in short, other than pain in the butt family members...all is well!

Well, I'm off to see about ordering this ring (hopefully without a repeat debate about sapphires vs emeralds!):surfweb:

Sorry about all the in-law issues. I'm sure they will come around in the end. Sounds like everything else is working out quite nicely for you.

I've heard of other people having trouble e-mailing Randy as well. Are you on FB? If so you could message him on that or if not you could PM me your e-mail address and i'll pass that onto Randy as i'm FB friends with him if that helps.

Thank that would be great. I have tried FB too but I've had no answer! I'll PM you my email addres and my FB details! :thanks:

On to other things...ring didn't pan out last night so I'll get to that later.

Today I bought my wedding shoes (we were actually shopping for Amanda's and Kate's but no joy on those!) I got Jeff Banks shoes which must have weird sizing because they are 2 sizes smaller than I usually wear!

Here they are....

JeffBanksShoes.jpg

They're a little different, but that's very typical of me, I'm definitely not a trend follower, I'm definitely a bit different to your average bear!

We did however get Amanda and Kate's wedding jewellry which they are both SUPER EXCITED about. What do you think?

It's all Swarovoski Crystal....

The crystals are too shiny so the pictures didn't come out too well!

Hi Jay! Just a note--- you can't have Randy come in for you F! dessert party. No outside photographers are allowed to photograph in-park events. Sorry! :(

Anyway, that really stinks about your wife's parents. That must hurt her feelings. :( I'm glad you both have an adorable little family now.

The girls' jewelry is gorgeous!!! They have excellent taste. :lovestruc

Thanks for letting me know about the photography with Randy before I made a fool of myself booking something I couldn't do!!

Amanda's parents have now confirmed they'll come! Shame it took me practically putting an email gun to their head to get a response! :rotfl2:

Jay got a wedding bargain today :cool1:

The store who sold our rings has not shipped Amanda's ring yet, even though they told me it will be sized and ready to go on Wednesday. So I send an email saying, you better get it out today or I'll cancel the order and you'll lose out on the other ring we want. The other option you have is to accept my offer of $300 less than the asking price on the other ring and ship them both together which will give you more time. I didn't expect they would go for it, but apparently he didn't want to lose the sales and he agreed! It means I'll have to wait another 5 days for both rings to be shipped out but we've got until February and that $300 will go toward my special surprise!...Yes, as the whole VR surprise didn't work out, I've got another one!

Also got Kate's shoes today. ***CHECK*** Finally found a pair of blue shoes in her size in John Lewis. Both of our girls have ridiculously small feet for their age and height. They are both tiny, petite kids, but my 2 year old nephew has almost the same size feet as Kate does! She is 7 with the feet of a 3 year old :rotfl2: I'm happy to get another job ticked off the list!

Also managed to get my shirt, so my ensemble is now complete! Amanda took a picture of me in my garb, but for some reason, I have a look of complete shock on my face!

WeddingAttire.jpg

I never realized it would be so tough to get a dress shirt with a half collar without pleats on the front! Thank you Moss Bros!

Parents-in-law now have flights booked!

The main "problem" at the moment is Amanda and her shoe dilemma! I fear that is going to be a long process!

So glad Amanda's mother and father have finally come around and will be attending! Also, the jewelry that she and Kate got is just stunning. Great choices!

It sounds like everything is really coming together for you...the rings, your shirt, in-laws. So happy for you!

Also, I'm sorry that she's having such trouble finding shoes! What size is she?

She's a 8.5 US or 6 UK, but she needs wider fitting shoes. She wants either white or light blue and they have to be flat. We'll find something in the end, it's not the first shoe drama! :rotfl2:

Jay, your ensemble looks great!!

Everything seems to be going smoothly (minus those dang shoes!!)!

Jay sweetie - How handsome you look!! Quite the Prince Charming!!!
How intriguing that you have another surprise for Amanda. What a lucky girl she is!! Good luck with the shoes. I know it's frustrating, but shoes are so important to us girls!! And they can change your life - look at Cinderella!! :thumbsup2

I look like I have a big shock for some reason...but :thanks:

I don't know if I dare say what the other surprise is as it is not a Disney thing! eeeek! I'm arranging a special surprise at Discovery Cove (after everyone else has left!) - The Elite Package (roses, champagne, dolphin delivering a personal message in a buoy etc) not quite on the same scale as the VR but I have to keep something as a surprise!

I'm sure the shoes will work out in the end, but we're only 13 weeks from the trip now so I am quietly worrying!

DFTW have told us that Amanda can not wear her dress for the reception. It's strange because we have got differing information on this but we really can't be bothered arguing or worrying about it...we'll just go and get changed!
The ceremony and pictures will be done by 4 and we're not due at Fantasmic! until 6.30, so we'll have plenty of time to get changed!

So we figured, it would be nice to have custom t-shirts made for everyone for the reception. I've been over at the DISign threads trying to figure things out and I've gleaned enough to have a stab...so I thought I'd share my creations here and over at the DISbrides FB group! I clearly have a lot to learn and they're not exactly perfect, but at least I tried, right!?

More to follow!

Let me know what you think!

In other news, Katie has raise almost £400 now, no new sponsors in a few days but there is still a lot of time between now and the run.

Still waiting on the reception BEO.
MIL & FIL have booked and paid.

TIA

I really like the designs! Are you going to do iron-on transfers or get them printed by a company?

I have no idea! :rotfl2:

I guess we'll do transfers seeing as I don't know where we'd get them printed here.

I'm quietly pleased with myself....I know they're not as cool as the DISigns from our creative DISer's but considering I'd never done anything like it before and had never used the software, I did OK!

I just wanted to share this and say a massive thank you to a wonderful woman called Marilyn!

Amanda wanted to get her mom a gift for the VR and Marilyn has custom made the most beautiful necklace. My MIL's favourite colour is red and Amanda wanted something on the necklace to represent her and our 2 girls.

Amanda's favourite colour is (as I've said) blue and our girls were born in March so their birth stone is aquamarine.

Literally in 24 hours, Marilyn created this...hand made, with Swarovski crystals!

It's absolutely perfect and her prices are incredible. Personally, I think she's seriously undersold herself!

So, I just wanted to share it and say...:thanks:to Marilyn :worship: you're incredible!

So Katie suddenly announced yesterday that she's really excited about the trip and the wedding! :cool1: Being autistic we try to break everything down for her into smaller more manageable steps and milestones and I found myself saying... "Daddy's birthday is in 21 days so that is 3 weeks. After that, Christmas is 4 more weeks. After Christmas we have 6 more weeks and we'll be leaving!" Suddenly, it seemed so close and I found myself getting a wave of excitement too! Amanda isn't so excited...she's frantically saying "it's not enough time I have so much to do!" There really isn't much to do...I took care of the majority of it already!!! :yay:

The rings have finally been shipped which is great news! :woohoo:

I'm still waiting on the BEO from Disney Catered Events. THey told me the same day as DFTW that they were getting my BEO ready to send and I've had the DTFW one for over two weeks now! I'm not worried because I think I pretty much know what the cost will be, but it'd be nice to have the BEO so I can put my mind at rest and plan.

:idea:Amanda has decided that we have to do welcome boxes. I don't really see the point seeing as everyone who is attending is staying on-site and has the DDP? Isn't the idea that you give your guests some "supplies"? Still...agree or disagree, if that's what she wants then that is what we will do! :confused3 I am now appointed the task of making personalized wrappers for just about everything...water, chocolate, etc. and stickers for gift boxes but I guess it will keep me out of mischief!

We are having bags of M&M's in our colours with our name, VR date and picture on them made for our guests. They're actually really cool but I can't say the idea of spending $45 on them sits well with me!

MIL & FIL have decided they want to stay at the POR. They are supposedly making their reservation this week. I keep saying that it's Presidents Day Weekend and now they have their flights they really should get the hotel booked. Apparently, it is one of the busiest weekends of the year at WDW so getting booked sooner rather than later is probably the best idea. Oh well...

My agenda this week is to :surfweb: and hunt down nice gift boxes that I can customize, shortly followed by harrassing DCE for my BEO and calling Discovery Cove to book my surprise!

Love the necklace!

We didn't bother with welcome bags as I knew they wouldn't be appreciated.
