Planning Retirement Picnic... Help please?

Hi all-

We're planning a retirement picnic/BBQ in the mid-June for DMIL. I am trying to get shopping lists together now for sanity and organizational purposes. Likely to be a 20-25 person party.

What else would you expect to see at a picnic? You would choose potato or pasta salad?

-BBQ chicken
-Beef tenderlion
-Hamburgers and hotdogs
-All the fixin's
-Pretzels
-Potato chips
-Potato and/or pasta salad
-Vegetable tray
-Fruit tray
-Iced Tea, lemonade, water, and sodas
-Ice cream cake (her favorite)

I feel like I am missing something really obvious... and it's no watermelon. I've got that covered with the fruit tray.

Do you need to choose between potato and pasta salad? Couldn't you have both?

What about a regular salad? Buy the premixed lettuce and cut up cucumber and tomatoes.

I plan our staff's barbecue outing every year for 30 to 35 adults and about 10 children. We include most of what you have plus:

A few veggie burgers for vegetarians
A Mesclun Green Salad with viniagrette, Cole Slaw, Macaroni Salad (plus the potato salad)
Slice Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella platter
Corn on the Cob
Cookies & brownies plus make your own ice cream sundaes

I also have platters of taco chips with salsa and guacamole for everyone to munch on while the food is cooking. And, we also include beer and wine.

Now I'm hungry!
