Planning Our Anniversary at WDW

Well I thought this would be the best place to get tips and advice on planning the best and most memorable anniversary at WDW.

We were married at the Polynesian Resort on February 15, 1990. Yes, almost 20 years ago. This is before DFTW. We didn't have much money then so my mom got us a room right on the beach and we had the ceremony there with just family members. Now I want to do something special for this anniversary.

DH said no to vow renewal. Too much money and it doesn't include the hotel. I have reserved 4 nights at the new Bay Lake Tower. At that time of year it is peak prices so 4 nights is still over $3000. A week is over $5000. But I want to do something!

I didn't have a wedding dress or reception or a beautiful cake like you lovely Disney brides. We were married in our hotel room by a Notary Public, sister-in-law, spent 2 nights there and had to go back home. I just thought 20 years ought to be special. Am I wrong?

Anyways, just wanted to get some ideas from those that have had wonderful Disney weddings and honeymoons. Thanks

First, I can't resist recommending that you rent Disney Vacation Club points from a member for that stay at Bay Lake Tower - you will spend FAR less than $3,000 for 4 nights (unless you want a 3-bedroom Grand Villa, of course). Both our honeymoon and our first anniversary trip to WDW were amazing! If you advertise your celebration (by wearing the free Anniversary pins, or making T-shirts and/or hats, and making sure it is noted on all your reservations), you will get a lot of attention and congratulations.

You could order a special anniversary cake for one of your meals or have it delivered to your room. For a restaurant, call the Cake Hotline: 407-827-2253. For your room, call Private Dining at the Contemporary: 407-824-1000 is the main line - they can transfer you. Lurkyloo!! I have looked at your wedding/honeymoon threads before. Amazing!

I have been reading about renting DVC points from a member on the other board today and have a request posted out there.

I am definitely going to look into the Wished cruise as my husband loves boats. In fact, when we are at WDW, if you can get there by boat, trust me, he wants to do that. I can't even remember the last time I saw Illuminations. We are usually toast by that time!

Parasailing?? I am a major wimp when it comes to that stuff.

I definitely want to do the special cake though! Since we didn't have a wedding cake I would love to have a Mickey wedding cake, smaller version of course.

Ooohhh I like the idea of the carriage ride. We stay at Fort Wilderness all the time and keep wanting to do that but get so busy and tired.

No problem! The DIS has soooo much info out there, but it can be hard to find it. Hopefully other brides will come along and share some ideas too.

Oh, and if you guys don't want to stay up for IllumiNations, you can rent the runabout The Breathless at the Yacht Club and ride around in it during the daytime. I believe the info is on the page I linked you to for recreation, or for the fireworks cruises. It's pricey, but if your husband loves boats, it might be his equivalent of a ride-along at the Richard Petty Speedway!

Congratulations on 20 years of marriage! I know that lurkyloo has already answered a lot of your questions (and I definitely agree check out renting points!) but I wanted to share my experience earlier this year for our anniversary dinner at the Grand Floridian. It was an incredibly romantic experience that we will remember for years to come!

One of the things we are wanting to do is dinner at Victoria & Albert's. So fancy! So nice. We really do like things that are just us and not a lot of others.
