When I started this process (in Oct.) I was a stay at home mom and planned on traveling in Septemeber because DH hates crowds. Well we finally got our closing statement and I also got a part-time teaching job. So now it is almost time to plan my first trip and everything is changing. So my plans right now are to travel Aug.20-24. Can anyone with experience tell me how the crowds are at this time? Also we plan to stay in a studio at OKW should this be a problem at the 7 month window? Any tips would be appreciated Thanks! :flower:

I don't think you will have a problem getting a studio at OKW for your time frame at the 7 month mark.

It will be hot - but probably not significantly more than in September.

IMHO, late August will be more crowded than in September, but less crowded than in June or July or earlier in August. Many Southern schools are back in session by the second or third week of August.

You can still have a very good time - you'll just have to plan a bit more than you would if you went in September.

Congratulations on your new position!

Best wishes -

You are in Hurricane Season, so I would invest in insurance, and I would be prepared for a short daily shower, but it will not ruin your day. The agony of teaching is that you will never be able to go at an uncrowded time (unless you do Feb/ or MLK weekend). Having said that I went last year at Easter, and even though it was really crowded, it was fine.

LOL-I'm also a part-time teacher and have gone during late August. Crowds? Almost non-existent! Crowdwise it's a great time to go-just very hot and humid.

We went 2 years ago August and thought it was great! We never waited for transportation and walked on every single ride without a wait. Our plan was get up early for magic hour and be back in our room for lunch. We ate, swam, napped and back to the park for dinner and evening. That way we were cool for the hottest part of the day. When we were leaving the park- the crowds were coming and when we were going the crowds were leaving. It worked for us and we plan to do it again August 2006!! As far as trip insurance, I agreed it is well worth it. We actually had to evacuate a day earlier due to an incoming hurricane. Got reimbursed for airfare and rental car and unexpected expenses.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was dissapointed to go in August but you all are making me feel much better and allowing me to get excited. Now I just have to wait until the end of Jan. to book it! ::MickeyMo

The great thing is there is usually a GREAT SWA airfare that comes out around July 4th for summer travel...you might get really cheap flights!!!

We'll be at VWL during the time you're planning. I made the ressies today. Another p/t teacher here! We went same time last year and had a great time, some rain, and yes, I think we may buy trip insurance.
