Hey all. So I'm trying to plan a last minute surprise trip to DL next week. We have never been during the Christmas stuff. We can do 2 days, Sat, Sun, or Mon. I was thinking for sure Monday, and not sure whether Saturday or Sunday will be better. We will stay with grandparent's in Huntington Beach most of our nights but thinking of doing one night at a nearby hotel on the long weekend day so we can go back to rest in the afternoon. Saturday they are predicting periodic rain showers and I can get the Anaheim Plaza for $79. Sunday we can get HOJO's for the Ent. rate of $59, weather looks better and if we did Sun/Mon we wouldn't have to drive back for the 2nd day. Which would you choose? Is one much better for crowds?

If it's crowds you want to avoid, go Saturday because:

a) Both So. Cal AP will be blocked out, which (this year) has meant that the crowd levels significantly drop on those days.
b) The weather will also deter a lot of people

Thanks, DLR29. How significant do you think the crowd difference is? Has anyone done DL in the rain? Is it miserable?

It depends on how much it's raining. But we enjoy DL in the rain, the crowds are definitely lower. With the So Cal APs blocked that will also help. But, I'd probably go Sunday & Monday and stay at the HoJo to save that $20. :)

I would pay the extra cash to the hotel to cut crowds, and go on Saturday.. When the park is less empty, the experience is better. The cost of Disneyland is so high, what is another 20, when it enhances the experience ten fold?

Will Saturday the 5th be better than Satuday the 6th as well? I know both will be busy but with the blockout patterns I am not sure what day would be best as far as crowds go?

The 5th will probably be less crowded because the Southern California AP's will be blocked on Saturday, but both days will be very busy because those are the dates of the Candlelight Processional, hosted by Jon Voight this year.
