Planning large family trip Resort questions.

Hey all! Planning a large family trip for early next year.

Those who have committed to the trip are staying at Fort Wilderness in RVs. We have some other family members who may come, but they don't have campers.

What resorts are easiest to get to Fort Wilderness from and what method of transportation do they use?

I'm thinking Wilderness Lodge via boat but wondering if there are even better options?

Strollers will be used so looking for easiest transport with kids.

Disney Mom you might want to consider the cabins at Fort Wilderness. When the spring sale came out we snagged one for less then a standard room at Wilderness Lodge. More space and a full kitchen is a nice perk to keep in mind.

I'm going to see what they think about them. Right now at rack rates they are $3000 for 7 nights. Think they'll go much cheaper?

Both the CR and WL are a very short boat ride away. There is a boat that loops CR/WL/FW all day. They could also stay at the Poly or GF and monorail to CR, then boat over to WL. These are all deluxe resorts. Is everybody ok with that?

I would say the cabins at Ft Wilderness, they are often around the price of a moderate and are usually included in the discounts if/when they are offered. Wilderness Lodge is a step up in price but still pretty convenient and then the CR is a boat ride away but more than a step up in price!

We have done trips with three and four other families and all stayed a completely different resorts due to price points and preferences and honestly it worked out really well. We met at parks, for dinners and other afternoon/evening activities and it was a great trip!

Wilderness Lodge would be the most convenient resort to Fort Wilderness. Not only does it have a boat that travels between FW and WL but it also has a paved walking path. It is a 20 minute walk between the two resorts. FW shares the Epcot bus with WL so you could also use that bus to get from WL to FW.

The Fort Wilderness cabins go on discount all the time, usually at a 20% discount.

Great. Thank you all that information. I'm assuming if we book cabins now and they go on sale we can modify reservation up until 5 days before travel? That's the deal at the campsites anyway.

I was told that the campsites rarely go on sale... true?

That's great to hear. We want to do some together activities and some separate. We also want to do a family day at the campground.

If people stay in a cabin, they will have a full kitchen plus outside grill. You can save a lot by preparing many of your own meals.

If people want a mod or value, they can just take the bus to MK then boat to FW. FYI, FW is very large and many sites and cabins aren't within walking distance of the boat dock. There is an internal bus system or golf carts can be rented.

I'd suggest checking out the Camping board for more help by the FW experts.

Thanks! I know our campers will be in the 100, 200, or 300 loop so look like we'll be near the dock. Maybe we need a golf cart though if we do cabin rentals.

The cabins usually go on sale. We booked the Fun and Sun promotion and got $290.25 for Saturday and $269.25 a night for the weekdays. It was running about ten bucks a night cheaper then the Wilderness lodge under the same promotion so we booked it. Mousavers.com is a good sight to monitor when resorts go on sale.

Have you given any thought to renting a camper? There are several companies that rent out campers and deliver to Fort Wilderness. I've never done it but just glancing at the websites, it looks like it could work out cheaper than the cabins or a deluxe resort if cost is a factor.

This is what I was going to suggest. I have not rented myself, but we are considering it on one of the next trips.

OP_ there are companies that will bring and set on a luxury 2 bedroom RV for you. I suggest heading to teh Camping forum and asking there if you think this may be a viable solution. I bet it would be a blast for a big family to be all camping together in RV's that mimic hotels. I read teh companies will amenities that your family may want.
