Hi everyone!
For years we have dreamed of going out west. A Major health issue last year has convinced us that life is short and not put off these plans any longer. In order to save up our pennies though we are planning for 2017 - 2 weeks. Our initial plans are to fly out to San Francisco and spend 3 nights, drive down the Pacific coast (2 nights), 5 nights at Disneyland , and 3 nights in San Diego. We are open to flipping the trip and starting in San Diego. Because of the kids' school schedule we are considering starting the trip the middle of of June or alternately August (our kids go back to school the Tuesday before Labor Day). We are DVC members with home resort at Wilderness Lodge September use year. I am guessing that it is going to be very difficult to get a room 7 month out for the summer.
1) So we are trying to strategize our best method for securing a hotel room (Disneyland hotel or Grand Californian ). Should we just play out of pocket? How does one trade points?
2) We are going to plan our entire trip around the best days to be at Disneyland. We understand the heat and crowds will be a major issue during that whole time. Crowds are my biggest concern. I am planning to go armed with a good touring plan and keeping my fingers crossed. However, our big debate is whether to coincide our trip with D23 (assuming it continues; we have never been). I am very wary thinking it will suck up a lot of our time and will mean even bigger crowds. However, my awesome DH would love to attend. I have done research on these boards and a aware of the pass holder blackout dates and was going to try to visit during those dates.
3) This trip is very exciting for all of us and quite honestly planning it will be a very involved but welcome escape from a very stressful time in our lives
. But unfortunately, I feel like I am at standstill until can figure out when to go.
Any advice would be so greatly appreciated!
Best wishes,
Lisa
