I am trying to pick a weekend in October and was wondering if Columbus Day is a holiday in the US where the kids would be off of school? Are there any school breaks in Oct that might have an impact on crowds?

Don't know about other school districts but ours has a fall break, usually the second full week in October.

A lot of the sourthern states have fall break the week of Columbus Day. However, we are still going at that time since the kids will be out. Does anyone know if that week is alot heavier than the other weeks?

Just curious to hear what dates your children have off during the month of October?

Yes the crowds will be heavier, if you can I'd go later in the month.

We usually go in Oct/Nov. Columbus day weekend is crowded, but usually dies down by Wed. Halloween is also crowded and Election Day weekend is busy too.

Your best bet is between Columbus day and Halloween. Oct 15-26 this year.

Yay for me, I'm going October 15-21...I hope your prediction is correct :thumbsup2 I was originally booked for the week before, but I changed after a mini-freak out over the Columbua Day holiday

Not only does the F&W Festival cause crowds but there is also a big convention running the week of the the Columbus Day holiday since my DH attends it every year.

DH tells me it is more crowded when he goes during the convention than it is during our family trip in August:flower3:

All the Brits arrive for the week beginning 22nd October as we have a week off then.

We went last year Oct 22nd to Oct 30th! The crowds were fine! The longest we waited for a ride was 30 minutes. Most attractions that say a 30 min wait or 20 minutes on the board you usually walked right on!!! or wait 10 to 15 minutes tops!

It was a great week to go..This past May we went from May 5th to May 12th...The crowds were very similiar to the end of Oct..Totally manageable

get there for the rope drop at every park and things should be a breeze

Anyone else's children on Vacation October 8th-12th??

mine, do! We're in Hardin County, Kentucky :yay:

What I remember from Columbus Day last year is that the crowds were busy on the weekend, and T-W-Th things were really quite manageable and even Monday (the holiday) wasn't terrible.

They've pushed the ending date of free dining back into late September. I don't know what, if any, impact that will have.

In addition to Columbus Day (Monday, Oct. 8) the first weekend in October, the Race for the Taste takes place at WDW on Sunday, Oct. 7.

The other events that take place that week are Food and Wine Festival :drinking1 and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party pirate: .

I suspect it will be quite crowded.

Nope, but we are going to WDW 10/21-10/27 anyway! My oldest child has a break the first week of November, for parent/teacher conferences...they get a 5 day weekend...this is Chicago-suburb area...
